Re: Who's Right?
Oh, cops DO think, it's just that some cops "think" they can get away with alot of things ever since the Rodney King incident (and most times they DO get away).

Re: Who's Right?
The skateboarder was dumb and the cop couldn't handle the situation properly.

Re: Who's Right?
I live in Canada, so I'm still in a standstill going "Wtf, why is skateboarding illegal x.x"
Back to the point, the police has there rights, but that just went too far. Going too far; abusing his power as a policeman, making childish excuses for a wrongful action. On the contrary, that kid is just pure disrespectful. Not much to say about him. And lastly, civilian guy ftw. Period. |

LOL
Earlier someone made a post, that has the same avatar as you and I didn't see the name and responded to it thinking that it were you. As for Mass, I agree with Grandiagod. I'm sorry but part of being a cop is understanding that it's your job to tolerate more than the average person. Seeing as you're going to see the **** end of everyone.

Re: Who's Right?
There are good cops and there are bad cops.
This douchebag falls under the bad cop category. End of story.

Re: Who's Right?
Holy **** I agree with Guru for once. Cop overreacted completely on a venial law. Simply stating that you cannot skateboard here and to please leave the premises is not that hard, I have seen plenty of officers handle a similar situation calmly.
Of course since the video started in the middle of the encounter I can't really make a statement of how the kid reacted to the cop at first and how the cop reacted to the kids skateboarding there. But if the cop started harassing those kids on a whim without telling them to leave in a calm manner, then yeah he was definitely abusing his power.

Re: Who's Right?
An officer's job is always to uphold the law and keep a situation under control. By basically trolling/antagonizing the kid with questions like "Just ashamed of yourself?", that's just causing a disruption and making the situation worse, and was totally unnecessary given the situation's (lack of) magnitude. The kid should have just kept quiet and reported him later for his cocktitude. Granted, the cop was letting the kid off easy to begin with (which is what cops normally do with respect to warnings and such), but the kid was being a dumbass and basically killed any leeway he may have had.
Also, it was not necessary for the cop to use his foot to get the kid into the car, but given the cop's attitude, it doesn't surprise me. He may try to uphold the law by the letter, but his attitude is a little high-and-mighty (hell, just listen to the stuff he says as he's arresting the kid). tldr: They both handled the situation suboptimally.

I'm still amazed that people aren't informed of their rights during police encounters. You don't have to answer any question a cop asks you except to provide your name even if detained. You do not even have to provide your ID to a cop unless you live in one of the 24 states with a law that requires it in cases of police detention. Even after that you are under no obligation whatsoever to do anything but cooperate with lawful orders the police give. Asking you questions does not count as a lawful order.

I don't like giving people breaks if those breaks mean they get to stomp on my rights.
