Re: New Apartment
Berkeley is about the same as what you're paying, but you probably get more space here. I'll be paying $1,435/mo. for 1,100sq ft. Not sure if I want a roommate or not yet, I don't really know anyone around here that would want to move to Berkeley.
Really nice places though, free gas and heating, wood burning fireplaces, and you can't go wrong with a 2 story apartment. Last edited by darkshark; 06-9-2011 at 03:57 PM.. |

Re: New Apartment
Originally this place is 539 per month, but they have some sort of electricity plan where you pay 125 per month for electricity, and if you don't use all of it, you get money back. If you go over 125 per month, they pay the rest.
So that makes it 664 per month. All utilities paid except cable. Free covered parking, free storage locker (like 8x8, so it's decent size) It does have wireless internet free. It's a good thing, because I discovered there are no ethernet ports in this place. Good thing I have wireless cards in everything I have |

Re: New Apartment
God that's so cheap. I wish it were cheaper here. I could get a damn mansion for $1400 a month in some other states lol.
The $125 a month seems kinda dumb...like...they might as well just have you pay the amount you owe. Free internet is a huge plus, unless of course you have several people downloading shit and it ends up slowing to a crawl all the time. Covered parking is an absolute must-have if you ask me, it's pretty much a deal breaker if they don't have it. I have to end up paying $60 extra per month because I have 3 cars and a motorcycle. =( |

Re: New Apartment
That's insane though. 3 cars and a motorcycle. We get one port per person. So I have 2 carports. I could fit a motorcycle and my car in one but I don't have a bike yet. That's something for when I have more money. I wouldn't buy one unless I paid in full when I bought it

Bikes are really cheap, I just went and got an older model sport bike (GSX1100) for just under $2k. Where do you work?

Re: New Apartment
I'm a manager at Papa Johns lmao. 8.50 per hour, working 30 - 40 hours per week. A lot of that is going out and marketing all over town for 9.00 per hour. Paychecks are around 600 every two weeks.
It's unfortunate I'm not in Kansas City working. I'd be making 10.00 doing the same thing there. |

Re: New Apartment
Where do you live?
In super populated areas like CA or NY, minimum wage is much higher than it is in the midwest, because the cost of living is so high. Wages in a state coincide with what the cost of living is. Cheap living = lower wages. |

Re: New Apartment
Yeah minimum wage here is $8.00, and SF has it's own minimum wage at like $12.00 an hour. $1,200 bucks a month would not cut it at all living here.
I guess having your share of the rent only being around 300 is nice though, that's why I'm debating as to whether or not to get a roommate. I love the feeling of being 100% independent and having a nice place to myself, but $1,500 out of my pocket stings a little. My take-home per check is about $2,300 (2 week), which isn't quite enough to cover the rest of my bills with 1 check...which scares me for some reason. Rebirth you need to demand a raise. |

Re: New Apartment
I refuse to have more than half of my monthly pay go to bills. I have no car payment, no insurance right now (my dad pays that), no phone bills. I just pay for this apartment right now.
My girlfriend has about 90% of her paychecks taken up by bills though, and it's retarded. She works full time, minimum wage (7.25/hr) at a daycare. Makes about 420 - 480 per paycheck. Has a $200 car payment, 100 insurance, 80 for phone, then half of rent. I guess her family isn't as well off as mine is but mine isn't that great either. |

Re: New Apartment
You're making $1.25 over minimum wage for a MANAGEMENT position. This is not right at all, sir.

Re: New Apartment
mfw dominos pays 7.50 and pizza hut pays 8.50 also
I could get a new job paying more but I pretty much make my own schedule and take off any weekends I want, which I do take weekends off every 3 weeks. Not sure if want to change yet |

You should just go to work as a delivery driver then. I averaged around $16 an hour or so at Domino's a few years back.

Re: New Apartment
Our drivers average 10 - 13 per hour most of the time, and during the summer it's pretty dead. Our delivery area covers Missouri State University, and since it's summer, there are about 20,000 less customers in the area.
Plus I don't like my car smelling like pizza. but I do understand it is more than what I'm making now. I turned down a salary position last november because I'm in school. I couldv'e made around 10 per hour but I'd have to work 45 hours per week every week |

Re: New Apartment
DS: Yes, rent is cheaper elsewhere, but think of it this way: The jobs pay more out here, and the cities offer a hell of a lot more to do.
tis the price paid for awesomeness The real question is the (rent)/(post-tax income) ratio |
