Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
Um... chromer, you're wrong as well. Sony will not fail, this is true. However, they will also not succeed. Six hundred dollars is simply too much to have an effective control on the market. They're marketing to people who:
A: have money B: Are willing to spend lots of money when they could just as easily spend much less and possibly have more fun C: fanboys The fanboys alone would probably be enough for Sony to make a profit. However, compared to all the other systems, the PS3 will do the worst economically. Nintendo knows how to do it: they're marketing to EVERYONE, not just rich fanboys. Microsoft also did well by releasing their system long before anyone else and getting a piece of the PC gaming market with what is essentially a console PC. PS3, on the other hand, is coming out late to a very small market for a price which a lot less people will consider buying for. By the way, all of these new standards like blu ray will all fail. They might be a great way of formatting games to hold more data, but the movie industry is on DVD right now and DVD is basically the best any movie would ever need (there are a few examples that don't fit on DVD well-- extremely long movies or movies with MANY extra features that most people don't watch anyway).

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
The thing with blu ray is basically the same thing as HDTV (and is possibly coupled with it as well). It is not the standard right now, but it may be in the future. I mean, imagine the possibilities in data storage and backup, high-definition movies and content (which is currently impossible on DVD), as well as other things. I think somewhere in the future, it *MAY* see extensive use, and I don't think it will fail, but it is uneconomical to assume it as a standard today.
I mean, many people have CD Players and CD Burners... CD is standard now. DVD emerged as a better option right now for movies, data, etc. Most technology in marketing in such is on CD, but will likely move to DVD in the next few years. DVD is used mostly in games now, but only recently have people been investing in DVD players (remember how expensive they used to be?), and DVD-Compatible disc trays were viewed as advantageous only about, oh, maybe five, six years ago? Very few people have DVD Burners, however, which is the next step in determining how well we depend on the technology, and how well in has been integrated as the standard (at least in my view). Blu-Ray, therefore, is a far way off. I do believe Sony can very well drive the PlayStation line into the ground, dead, if they keep Blu-Ray as their standard. They tried to make UMD an industry standard. It failed. Blu-Ray as of now is even less practical. Add the cost of developing Blu-Ray technology and discs, and PlayStation could very well be dead by the next generation. I do not doubt that one bit.

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
The problem is that both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray were sent out into the market too early. It's far too soon to make the switch over. Look how long we all had VHS format before we switched to DVDs. And it was a HUGE change! Suddenly, you can fit more data on a smaller, non-perishable disc and put it in any format you wish. You can also put in extras and various other little tidbits of fun. All of this in theatrical-quality video and sound. What more would you need?
It's like going from an AGP 256MB Radeon to a PCIe 256MB nVidia. It's a little better; not worth the $500-$600 for it. ~Squeek |

Only Nintendo refuses to continue to sell Gamecubes and Nintendo 64s. Who would want that crap anyway. Hope you know what discontinued means. It means nobody sells the product anymore. And, according to the visit I just took to the store today, the Nintendo Gamecube is, in fact, still a product that can be purchased using some form of money. ~Squeek |

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
Ok so the Gamecube got lucky. I just wouldn't waste anymore money on nintendo because everyone of them I bought was discontinued. Nintendo just needs to stick to the hand-held gaming business. Btw you look like the idiot when you diss my name and you don't know what it means.

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.
Look man, you're making no sense. If you mean that nobody sells Nintendo 64 games anymore, then that's quite obvious! Nobody sells black and white televisions anymore either! Your word choice is incredibly poor on this one. Every company that chooses to release a new product to REPLACE their old product discontinues production of the previous one once the new one is running smoothly through the market. However, this isn't to say that you can't just go to a GameStop, EBGames, or even eBay and just get the console or games for it. Choose a better word. Discontinued is not the right word you're looking for. ~Squeek |

Hmm I didn't offended, I am saying if you are going to diss my name take the time to find out what it means. Its pretty bad when you can't state an opinion without someone getting pissed.

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
Let me see here hmm I guess I should call u Einstien shouldn't I. If you haven't noticed every console that nintendo has made is always discontinued. The Nintendo 64 was discontinued not long after its release. All I know is I am tired of argueing of a damn video game. O and btw umm... opinion is a statement that cannont be proven. Case in point ANY opinion is untrue.
