I saw this question on another site and I thought it was pretty good, so here goes...

What do you think a 2D world looks like to a 2D person?

What do you think a 3D world looks like to a 2D person?

impossible for a 2d person to see 3d as they would only see in a straight virtually atom thin line.

Well, a 2d person wouldn't be able to comprehend depth, if they saw something 3d. And to a 2d person, 2d would be normal, but it would be 2d....

I'm sorry, I have no idea. That's an interesting question.
So what's this Flatland?

If you think about it, 2D objects are 3D, since everything has a width, or it cant exsist. No matter what medium. Pencil on paper. The graphite is 3d, and its markings are 3d, though somewhat infestismal. A piece of paper has width, a film reel has width. 2D is merely a human illusion.

(based on 3 minutes of thought using common logic)

hate to say this, but even one straight virtually atom thin line still has a thickness, hence making it three dimensional. 2-D can only be created when one dimension is eliminated. However, if any of the said dimensions are eliminated, the resulted volume must be 0, this making it non-existant. Therefore, I believe that 2-D is nothing but an illusion created by our minds, and you cannot compare a "2-D world" with a "3-D world" There is simply no way you can imagine seeing something truly 2-D, and theres no way something 2-D can see something 3-D, as its nonexistant. Thats my argument.

the above post is by me, and to add to it (so its not "off topic") if 2-d worlds do exist i guess volume in them doesn't exist at all, there must only be surface area. way too wierd to imagine what it'd be like

dont think of this as a place(2-d world).. think of it as a imaginary world.. dont try to add logic to your eyes need depth to work.. or anothing like that.. just assume that they would work without turning.. so it would be like looking straight ahead and to look anywhere you would have to turn your whole body....but.. this would rally take too long to explain what the world would be like.. so.. if you can't imagine it.. go watch some more barney..

Keep in mind that I have not read the other responses yet because I am a lazy bastard.

Buttt... I think it really depends on what 2 dimensions you are talking about. For instance lets say our 2D person has Y and X (height and width). They could therefore see in 3D even though they are 2D because their eyes would both be X units apart. So a 3D world would look normal to a 2D person of that type. If the person was Y and Z and had no width, they would either see in 2 dimensions or see nothing at all because there is no width for the eyes.
Again, for the 2d person in the 2d world it depends on the orientation of the 2D world. It should look 2D because they exist in the same realm but the problem here is that this cannot exist in the first place. Owell.. just my 2 cents in 1 minute.
