I have a video from fb about gaining muscle.
I know I can do research and shit, but I thought I'd throw this here anyways.
How true is this? I know most of you here are intelligent in this field. It's like 25 minutes or some shit, the video doesn't show time. https://www.bluestarnutraceuticals.c...m_content=002a

I don't think anybody in their 20's or 30's really need a test booster as long as they are active and have a good diet. Also, it is fact that testosterone is the hormone that increases protein synthesis in males; therefore, more protein synthesis = more muscle aka gainz. I'm not sure why they make it out to be a "secret" but I'm sure that's just part of their marketing tactic. There are a lot of ways to "naturally" build your testosterone levels - i.e. exercise, eating whole foods (whey protein, meat, etc) , and getting adequate amount of sleep. Like the video said, a test booster(status) is not a magic pill. It's a proprietary blend of ingredients to help raise the test levels of a person; however, it will not be dramatic and more than likely will not leave you with a ripped up six pack of abs. My guess is you may just get harder erections or notice an increase of sex drive if you take one. If you're concerned about raising your test levels effectively, get a prescription of test from the doctor, but that is easier said than done from what I've read/seen. |

Ok, thanks Mahou! I'm kinda exactly where with what you said. I figured it's just another marketing deploy, but I hope that one company out there actually is out to help without huge net profit.
Edit: I'm not too necessarily concerned with raising it, but if the whole "unlocking" comes naturally with exercise, I should be fine.

Re: I have a video from fb about gaining muscle.
I can't watch the video at work for whatever reason, it won't load, but I have an idea of what they're talking about based on Mahou's description.
'Test boosters' are basically just another one of the many bullshit supplements the fitness industry sells. It exploits a well known and common sense fact that increasing serum testosterone will increase muscle mass and strength. The most basic of anabolic steroids, Testosterone, would obviously do exactly that, which is why it's a banned substance outside of prescription for low testosterone. The FDA would never allow the sale of a 'test booster' if it actually did what it claimed to do (raise testosterone) LOL, so it ...doesn't do what it claims to do. That would classify it as an anabolic steroid. Historically speaking, the FDA has been swift to ban any anabolic steroids that have made their way onto supplement store shelves. Hell, the FDA has banned almost all supplements that do literally ANYTHING, their reach extending to well liked supplements like Jack3d for the DMAA content, etc. Test boosters usually rely on an ingredient called D-AA and a concoction of a bunch of other bullshit herbs that don't do anything. There is some evidence to suggest that D-AA *might* increase testosterone levels in older men that are testosterone deficient, but in a healthy male or female it's not going to do anything. Anyway, generally speaking anyone trying to sell you some secret to building muscle is just trying to make $. There are no secrets. There are no secret supplements. The only supplements that 'magically' build muscle aren't a secret at all, they're called anabolic steroids and ironically some of them are probably cheaper than these supplements that don't do much of anything. If there's 'one strange trick' to getting jacked, it's sticking a needle in your butt that is filled with a banned substance, and there are tons of athletes doing exactly this while trying to sell you their own brand of bullshit supplement. Be careful giving your money to the fitness industry, it's a jenga tower of lies. They've created a multi billion dollar industry that relies on peoples ignorance to fuel it, but the fact of the matter is that building muscle and getting in shape involves only a few pretty simple principles that you don't need to pay anything for (other than maybe slightly increasing your grocery bill). If you need more information I'm sure myself or many others here can help you out.

Re: I have a video from fb about gaining muscle.
Arch has touched basis on this but there are good supplements you can buy over the counter that can help. The ones that helped me so far are....
Caffeine - gives extra boost before working out in the gym (coffee, caffeine tablets, preworkout) Creatine monohydrate - makes the body retain water in the muscle to help build more strength and endurance Whey protein Anything else I ever bought was a waste of money. |

Re: I have a video from fb about gaining muscle.
Thanks guys! Unrelated, but what about whey protein shakes? I drink one serving, 1 cup of formula, 6 ounces of water, in the morning to replace breakfast. Does that do anything, or should I drink it right after working out?

Pretty sure this is broscience, but whey protein shakes seem to be more helpful post-workout (after the workout) than before - this is because your protein synthesis is heightened after a workout. It's ideal to consume protein while this is happening (at least...that's what I've been told). Imo, you can take protein anytime during the day as long as you're getting a sufficient amount of protein per day. However, I do drink two shakes a day. Sometimes I get lazy and don't feel like making breakfast and it's nice to have something after the workout. They usually look something like this... 2 table spoons of peanut butter 1 table soon of coconut oil 2 scoops of whey 2 table spoons of honey 1 banana Around a cup of almond milk.

Mahou's 70% recommendation is a good intake goal and is well supported by research.
Timing doesn't matter. Most people 'feel' best about taking it after a workout but timing isn't relevant. Whey is one of the three supplements as mentioned before that actually work, as its...just protein, and it's a simple method of reaching your daily protein goals.

Re: I have a video from fb about gaining muscle.
When it comes to protein macros, I really liked this website's take on things: http://bayesianbodybuilding.com/the-...-bodybuilders/
It also coincides nicely with Mahou's 70% recommendation (specifically, it mentions .82 g protein / lb, which already includes a safe markup from .64 g / lb after which no additional benefits were observed). Last edited by Reincarnate; 03-15-2017 at 12:27 PM.. |

Re: I have a video from fb about gaining muscle.
I finished the entire video this morning btw. Product seems like complete bullshit. Also, read some of the reviews.....
https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Star-Nut.../dp/B00ED3WLTS 22% people have put this on 1 star. The other 54% of the people who left 5 stars pretty much said that they had more energy after going to the gym for awhile. I'm willing to bet that the people who claimed this weren't working out regularly anyway (they are experiencing nooby gains). They are giving credit to the product rather than to themselves. |

I also think this is a pretty good primer when it comes to the subject (by Greg Nuckols): http://www.strengtheory.com/the-science-of-steroids/

Re: I have a video from fb about gaining muscle.
Based on the 70% rule I would need to ingest 105g of protein per day optimally, that seems like a lot more than what I'm currently doing, damn no wonder I'm a pipsqueak

Re: I have a video from fb about gaining muscle.
105g of protein really isn't that much. With 1 protein shake, you're already half way there....well almost halfway
