Its called Exponential Rate. The fact is that the guy shared movies online so they will charge him the maximum possible as if everyone that could download them did. They can't say that only this person and this person downloaded it so they assume that everyone that could download it did and they charge him for that.

This is a scare tactic. The RIAA can't get three million from this guy, and they know it. This will probably be settled out of court for a few thousand dollars.

Downloading movies and music is NEVER as good as buying them- if a band is worth buying their CD, they can have my money, but if it is for one song, or they are trying to sell their CD over the internet and they aren't an indy artist, *looks at MSI, The Hippos* Hell no, I'll just download it. And as far as movies go, if a movie is worth hunting down and downloading, I'll most likely buy it when I have the money. |
