    I've never heard of a whitehole, it might be something else or a typo.
    but anyways im gonna look for some vids on blackholes on youtewb.
    if anyone would please bare out a long 3 page essay on blackholes that would be nice.

    not back on, ive heard scientists were trying to create a wormhole.
    you need a super hot ultraviolet light and it has to be very hott, and you shoot an atom or a bunch of them with it.
    I can't really remember but scientists ''say'' they have seen or mapped a few.
    This was on the science channel ftw.
    and to what EnR said, if blackholes don't lead to anything, then where does all the stuff they suck up go?

      if you were to observe a spaceship enter a black hole, first the object would look like it is slowing down, but never reach the "event horizon". The event horizon is spherical area from which nothing can escape without accelerating beyond the speed of light. This is due to space-time sloping downward to infinity. At the center of the event horizon is a singularity (too complicated i dont really get what it is). If you happened to be on the space ship then you would experience time in the normal fashion and at the event horizon you would be ripped into subatomic particles as you fell into the singularity.

      EDIT: when something falls into a black hole the mass is still there it doesn't go anywhere. It dissipates through hawking radiation as far as I know, however I am not too sure of how the black hole evaporates exactly.

        What's stupid is how people are thinking this is going to create a big black hole. We are emitting something like 320-340 trillion protons into the LHC at 99.9 % the speed of light, and the result is going to be a collision that's so small and unnoticeable, nothing will happen. The experiment is being done with cameras that can take 1,000,000 pictures a second for viewing purposes, not purely experimental purposes. Think of the trillions of volts of energy that are running in this experiment. All this energy and ressources, and we're only able to create a pinprick-sized black hole. People need to realize that we really don't have the ability right now to create a big black hole. When you touch things, you're not actually touching them; the electrons on the surface of whatever you're touching is repelling away the electrons on your skin. The same holds true for anything. If we use how many trillions of units of energy at this speed just to collide mere protons, then how would we have enough energy and technology to collide things such as stars to create huge black holes? It just makes no sense and people need to use their head more.

          Sorry if this has been said before, but there are colliding particles on the atmosphere of the earth all the time that are equally, if not stronger, than the collisions that the LHC will be creating. I wouldn't worry about the creation of a black hole really.

            Contrary to what you may think you know about quantum physics, we have no clue if black holes evaporate or if hawking radiation exists. It's actually part of the reason that we are doing this experiment in the first place. It's all contingents based on contingents based on contingents based on contingents. WHOO! SCIENCE!

            Nonetheless, if it creates a small black hole it will probably destroy the whole facility. I'm not saying that this wouldn't be awesome, I'm just saying it won't be harmless.

              The camera would be crushed, so even if you could somehow retrieve it (impossible by simple nature of a black hole), all you'd get is a pile of matter with no recorded media. If the media was being recorded using radio signals and the media was being recorded by a device outside of the event horizon, the image would just cut out as the camera went beyond the event horizon.

              How the **** can you "fall" into a black hole? I think a better word would be "****-SMASHED". You even said "ripped apart into subatomic particles". How can you then follow that with a softcore verb like "fall"?

              Yeah, I'm not a quantum physicist or anything. All my knowlege on the matter is pretty limited and has been picked up from shows on educational channels or while skimming wikipedia. Oh and what I've been able to piece together from various science fiction.

              But I do know a lot more than the uninformed folks who have a tendency to talk a lot without doing the tiniest bit of research on the matter. I might talk a lot, but at least I've done the tiniest bit of research on the matter.

              ps i think it's pretty obvious that hawking radiation exists **** you

                you are completely right. we shouldn't, as a society, be spending money to prove things that are pretty obvious already. small margins of error that we feel comfortable ignoring because of their abstract smallness should be ignored because it seems pretty obvious.

                        It would take a while for ~10^32 atoms to collapse into a singularity if you're starting off with a few hadrons or w/e.

                          You are right about hawking radiation, but there's a problem with this reasoning.

                          Under the standard model the LHC cannot create mini black holes - the energies associated with it are far too small. The only conditions that satisfy mini black hole creation in theory are those that also require decay via hawking radiation >_>

                          Thus, as every qualified physicist has agreed, there is no danger here.

                            I was under the impression that the gamma radiation from the decay of a black hole would probably melt the equipment and the facility because of its intensity.
