Under the veil of dusk we go on,
Don’t close your eyes.
What if it all disappears in the shadows that reach from the stars?

If I held my ground would you ask me to change?
This drought bleeds on now we're dancing for rain
We drink the air but it’s still not the same
These worlds collide but the distance remains
We point the finger, never accept the blame and I know. I know

A history lesson: Since the beggining of time, man has strived to "rule the world" and create a unified empire under their rule. Many have come close to such a feat, such as Alexander the Great, Adolf Hitler, etc. However, with so many different minds and opinions, how would it be any at all possible to unify a world of differences and eliminate all conflict so as to create the perfect society, utopia? The answer: religion. Most all religions teach ONE way a person is to act, and sets a strict rule of moral and ethic codes. Example: Christianity is one of the best examples, for it uses the one of the lamest excuses for its teachings "it just is". But what the bible teaches, if everyone were to abide by it, would create a perfect society.

Now, everyone knows to be a good samaritan, act nice, be kind yada yada yada, but what enforces us to act in this as a lifestyle? What is the "or else" that pushes everyone towards following a religion? That my friends, is the idea of afterlife, and where you will spend it, being in the ever damned and forever suffering in hell, or the holiest milestone, heaven. Clearly the two distinguish between good and evil, right and wrong, blessed and damned, and most everyone chooses to reach heaven. In order the reach heaven, however, one must follow the bible, or qu'ran, or whatever one follows, in order to reach foreverlasting happiness. As well as one of the most used reasons to follow a religion "Jesus died for your sins". This affects many people one the basis of "the ultimate sacrifice", and would make one feel guilty for letting him die in vain.

This is what unites a people, creates a utopia, builds an empire, but the controversy of different religions has prevented the worldwide dream of unification, yet still created subdivisions of civilizations in turmoil over religion. So, I follow all religions minus the worshipping and praying, I "do unto others", accept death, maintain a reasonable ethics. I've learned this while living in a hardcore religious household, where EVERYTHING is based on belief, and it's made me think...
Your idea might make sense if it weren't for all the times throughout history there were societies that were homogeneous populations of one single religion. Guess what--they were never perfect utopian empires.

I'm catholic, and raveren, how do you suppose the big bang happened? Even you can agree that something happens because another thing acts upon it.

It seems like everyone around me has a religion, and I don't. I guess you could say I am my own religion
