FFR's Newest Deaf Player
My name is eMVy, I am completely deaf and I have been all my life.
I love to make music even though I have never been able to hear it myself. I love playing FFR and Stepmania, I've just never made an account. But, here I am, I hope we can be friends! |

Re: FFR's Newest Deaf Player
Welcome dude, just one questions -
Why do you make music if you cant hear it? Thats like painting and not seeing it.

I know what is pleasing to the ear, I studied a lot of different sheet music and I found patterns within them and learned to write music, then I had several different instructors teach me to play violin, flute, oboe, and guitar. I can't necessarily tell if it sounds good or not, but I doubt teachers would tell me otherwise if it was not. |

Re: FFR's Newest Deaf Player
basically; what kind of feel you get from it, if you can determine what kinds of melodies/percussion might be present or when the mood of the song might change
for a song that's constantly changing itself up you wouldn't be able to get a good idea of how it plays, but if it's fairly consistent you could glean the individual layers being used and guess at what is what I've sometimes played charts to songs I've never heard and imagined what they'd sound like but I'm terrible at it rofl, I can't figure out any more pitch than the limited four columns I can see so I come up with these really mechanical sounding melodies

Re: FFR's Newest Deaf Player
Ah, albaneesk8r, as he was out of line in saying that, I am quite used to it and didn't take any offense. He was simply curious as to how it is done, because he does not know what it's like to be without a single sense. And I appreciate your saying that, it does mean a lot.

Now you have explained it - fair enough. albaneenesk8r don't jump in there with the "you're an asshole" ****. Why do i have to tread on egg shells around someone with a disability im sure they wouldn't like that.

Re: FFR's Newest Deaf Player
I was going to say something like this though. Anyway, this is truly inspirational. I'm pretty sure most deaf people wouldn't even attempt to play rhythm games. And yet you're on here, an exceptional player by anyone's standards. The community is lucky to have more amazing people like you. =)

Re: FFR's Newest Deaf Player
Sheesh, take it down a notch. Clearly it wasn't meant to be offensive, and it's a completely valid question. The way you responded makes it sound like he said "You're deaf, so you're not allowed to create music".
