Windows 7 Beta release!
Microsoft is officially releasing Windows 7 Beta 1 (Build 7000) today.
Windows 7 is basically a Vista layout, but it runs even faster and smoother than XP. It has a lot of enhanced features and new technology - such as touch-screen capability, handwriting to text, new features for open windows. It has everything Vista has, and more - but runs much faster. Windows 7 is said to require much less computer resources than Vista or XP. Minimum requirements: * Processor: 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor * Memory: 1 GB of system memory * Hard drive: 16 GB of available disk space * Video card: Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128MB memory (in order to enable Aero theme) * Drive: DVD-R/W drive * Internet connection (to download the Beta and get updates) The Beta is going to be released on this page (so they say) sometime this afternoon FOR FREE! There is no announced time. They are limiting it to 2.5 million downloads (which will go fast). It probably will be annoying since the servers will most likely be overloaded by a ton of people at once. I already have Windows 7 Beta...it's been released to developers for a few days now. Being a Vista-hater, I have to say I absolutely love this new OS. It's so fast and sleek and simple to use. I tried FFR on it with FF3 and it ran beautifully. So this would probably be a great thing to get for you people having problems running FFR on Vista. The only catch is, this Beta version will only be activated until August 2009 (although I'm sure there will be cracks for it by that time which will disable the deactivation). I'm definitely keeping it because I've never been happier with an OS. And remember, this is still a BETA so it's not guaranteed to be completely stable, so download at your own risk. Personally, I haven't found any bugs yet and it runs just like a full release so far. One thing to add. Windows 7 comes with IE8 Beta preinstalled. I could not run FFR on IE8 Beta because it would lag a lot. FF3 worked great though. I'm sure IE7 would work as well; haven't tried it though. To all of you who decide to get this great OS, enjoy! Make sure you are within the first 2.5 million people to download. Happy downloading! Last edited by Sprite-; 01-9-2009 at 12:31 PM.. |

Maybe I'll try to download it later, sounds pretty awesome if it's faster than old XP. =P
Just got over a GB of RAM too recently, so I'd have all the minimum requirements so nothing shouldn't go wrong with those aspects of the OS.

Sounds like you should get a Mac instead.

Re: Windows 7 Beta release!
God yes I love mac. All the really ****ty bloatware filling up my hardrive and I just love how OSx loves to rape my processes mercilessly grinding all my applications to a halt. Oh it's so restricted so I couldn't even screw anything up even if I wanted to...or do any of those constructive things that I could benefit from. OH AND THE COMPATIBILITY...I love it how it can't run any of my favorite applications.
Btw, I know a guy who's been using Windows 7 like a month ago. He's Portuguese though and manages to find these kinds of things...hopefully I can bum it off him and if I do just ask me if you want a copy. Last edited by fido123; 01-9-2009 at 04:25 PM.. |

Re: Windows 7 Beta release!
Lol, you guys are failing your DL's or something cause I'm downloading at rates between 300 and 1,300KB/sec...
I don't know if this makes a difference buuuuut, I have a 32 max request for my pipelining feature on FF... Maybe that's why I'm getting such good DL speeds.

Re: Windows 7 Beta release!
I have over 70 gigs of free space after 5+ years on this very computer. And my dad torrents a lot of music.
A LOT. [/lateresponse] It's probably too late to download the OS for free, so I'll just take your word, Sprite, that it's good. I'll definately check it out when a stable version is released or starts coming preinstalled on computers. Last edited by Shadowcliff; 01-9-2009 at 10:38 PM.. |

Re: Windows 7 Beta release!
I guess the actual platform of the OS got huge. From what I remember, Windows XP's platform is around 3 GB. So, hopefully with all of that extra space needed comes better content.

Re: Windows 7 Beta release!
16 gb isn't really that much. Most computers come with 250+ xD

Re: Windows 7 Beta release!
Hahaha, yeah. I have like 170 GB, so it wouldn't be bad for me to get. I currently have the specs to run the OS comfortably. Maybe if I'm lucky, I can head over to someone's house and get the new OS.

If you're using a computer from 03, you probably shouldn't get Windows 7 :P

Wow have fun grabbing it, SERVER IS TOO EFFING BUSY. It's probably gonna be mayhem in the next few hours trying to grab a seat for the DL. I might see if any seeds are up :3

Re: Windows 7 Beta release!
You can probably find seeds for it. The main purpose of the wait is to get the official serial codes for it so you can have a genuine version, rather than using a crack which won't let you get any updates.
