"Why would anyone want to mindlessly bash four buttons at the rhythm of some music?"
Today, during a boring English class, some other student started chatting with me, and at some point he asked what kind of games I play. I impulsively blurted out that I play FFR, even though it was obviously not the kind of game he was referring to. He hadn't a clue what FFR, Stepmania, DDR or Guitar Hero was, so I tried explaining the game; I said something along the lines of it being about pressing the arrow keys at the right moment in accordance with the music. I don't think you really have to read the thread title to figure how he replied. I had no idea what to say, and you can probably guess how lifeless he now thinks I am. I am actually quite lifeless, but that's not the point.
How would you react in a situation like this? Or in other words: what's so good about FFR? |

Does it really matter what someone else thinks if you yourself like the game?

Anyways, here's how I would respond to him. I'd invite him to watch me play a game of FFR, and then let him try if he was interested. Who knows? Maybe he would start playing. Last edited by Tater Tot; 10-6-2008 at 12:03 PM.. |

But anyways, typically I just say it's to kill excess energy other things in my day don't take care of. I mean seriously, who cares about how you spend your time? Plus it's great anger management for free. |

Also what I hate is how games like audition you have to correspond with the arrows on the bottom of the screen and people say you can't button mash in the game, but do you seriously think I'm button mashing? I just can't read the arrows!
What I like in stepmania is that you can actually READ the arrows, and there are many hard songs that challenge your ability to speed/jack. Also, in stepmania you can do things like split to make it harder to read the arrows, stealth, etc. |

Why do people play any games at all? To bring entertainment to one's self, exercise and improve related skills and possibly to impress others. FFR/SM is no different, and in at least my case it's improved my sense of rhythm and melody and breadth of musical experience.
(oh, what is audition btw)

Audition is some stupid rhythm game where you unlock fashion stuff and the arrows are inside of a bar and you have to hit the arrows in correspondence, you don't even have to follow the music to hit the arrows, so that's why I find it stupid. Also there's just 60-150 bpm pos music in that game. If they put in songs like 960 bpm speedcore everyone would be f*cced over lulz

It's a rip-off of a rhythm game for the PS, Bust-a-Groove. Audition is ****, though. BAG was pretty damn awesome Answer to the OP: It's a good excuse to buy a new keyboard and speaker system

Almost everyone I've ever told about my playing DDR/SM/FFR etc etc has been really impressed and wanted to know more. Kinda says something about what a boring place I live in I suppose.

I don't understand what you mean by 'hit the arrows in correspondence' because that doesn't sound any different from sm to me, unless it means you can hit them as fast or slow as you want
is there like a video I can watch? rofl

I've been asking myself the same question ever since I quit. Honestly, it's a retarded thing to do
