Keyboard Issues?
Sorry, not new to FFR or anything, but I've recently started to actually attempt hands and am having difficulties. The issue is that my keyboard won't recognize most hands (and definitely not quads), and because of that I've been completely avoiding them altogether. There's no noise generated from my laptop when I hit the keys, it just doesn't recognize at least one of the presses (I believe this is called ghosting?).
I do know how to remap my keys and am currently using the standard arrow config, but with f,g,t and h keys (gogo laptop). Switching to spread does NOT solve the issue at all (and I play l/r index, r mid anyways). I've found that shifting my keys to different places of the keyboard (jkil, awsd, cfvb, or even rotating my keyboard to bghy) grants me access to different hands, but there's always one that doesn't work, and quads never work, regardless of the position. The default arrows keys don't recognize any triples I put it at all, so that's out too. I've tried using autohotkey to map my keys to silly places (f to q, g to c, and h to p), but have netted the same result. I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem, what you might've done to solve it, or even a cheap USB keyboard that doesn't have this issue. Sorry if this is on the wrong board: I don't come on the forums often and this looked like a general Q&A section Thanks! |

This is on the right part of the forums, and no problem on posting your question.
This is a common problem for some people, and well, the fact of the matter is--if you cannot find a set-up that works on your current keyboard, a simple USB keyboard is the solution to your problems. As far as what kind of KB to get, I do not know. |

Re: Keyboard Issues?
if you want to be able to hit hands the normal way, brute force and look for a key combination that hits all combinations of threes (or all four at once ideally). do this by picking a set of four keys, opening notepad, holding two of them down then a third; if the third keystroke appears you can hit that hand.
some keyboards are better about this than others; for me, qwop works. this is a deliberate physical limitation in keyboards, where fewer parts are used to collect keytaps from all the keys; because the vast majority of uses for a keyboard do not involve holding arbitrary sets of 3/4 keys down at once this saves money.

Re: Keyboard Issues?
Yeah, just keep trying different key setups.
Spread: askl, <v86, zx,. qwop, etc. Just keep trying them until you get something that works. And yes - testing in Notepad is a good way to find out if they work or not very quickly.
