Who's Right?
The video I'm about to show you, may be old to some of you, but seeing as I just found it, it may be new to some of you as well.
I wanted to post this in its own thread because I'd like to actually hear some opinions on it. I feel it's a rather controversial topic, and I anticipate hearing what some of you think. With that being said, here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koY8N30nQko Who's right? What's another way this could've been handled? What's missing? Feel free to vote, and reply. Thanks! Oh..and for ****s and giggles, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BudhF...layer_embedded

I'm still amazed that people aren't informed of their rights during police encounters. You don't have to answer any question a cop asks you except to provide your name even if detained. You do not even have to provide your ID to a cop unless you live in one of the 24 states with a law that requires it in cases of police detention. Even after that you are under no obligation whatsoever to do anything but cooperate with lawful orders the police give. Asking you questions does not count as a lawful order.

Lighten up.
They were intended to be humorous for the fact that they were immature, or ignorant poll options. They weren't intended however, for people to make a scene out of.

Re: Who's Right?
that officer handled it quite well. it may not have been necessary for the officer to threaten the kid, but then again it wasn't necessary for him to resist either.
kids need to not be dumb and try to respectfully handle the situation if they run into the police. if he's going to sit there and call him a dick, he's not just going to take it. also, i'm not sure why he wasted his time talking to the people commenting in the background when he was citing the other skaters. they were pretty damn stupid.

Re: Who's Right?
Police officers should be held to stricter standards when they are on duty than any normal citizen.

Re: Who's Right?
I agree with Grandiagod.
I disagree with Massflavour. Here's why: Even though the KIDS were irresponsible and sarcastic with the cop, HE is the one who I feel should have handled it differently. The reality is, he's the "adult" and regardless of commentary from anyone, he shouldn't haven threatened anyone or handled it physically. Every day in the US there are reports of police brutality. How far does a cop have to go for you to believe that he was in the wrong?

Re: Who's Right?
Well, kids wouldn't meant to be so... hmm... incredibly idiots, to call a cop a dick or whatever. At the other hand, cops wouldn't meant to be so strict, when it comes to "incredibly idiot kids". Take them to department, and call whoever that's needed to call, and not threathen, slap or anything else physically, imo.
My opinion: both are wrong, but this guy is a great dumbass... Ps: Here in Brazil, it's usual to happen things like this, even worse, and you don't even need to insult a cop, rofl. Never happened to me, but to some friends of mine. |

Re: Who's Right?
I'm a skateboarder myself, and I felt that the cop was doing his job. Although, he didn't have to question the skater with stupid questions. Asking if he was ashamed of himself was really stupid, because he knows that it's going to piss off the skater even more. Yeah the skater had the right of silence, but being a teenager, half the time they will retaliate. The cop should have kept his mouth shut, and ask only questions that dealt with the crime, and not personal issues.

Re: Who's Right?
Are you really not allowed to skateboard anywhere in San Francisco? Like, anywhere?
