Re: characters
You probably didn't download the bones file. Bones is the file which gives the mesh (or simply your character) the animation it needs. You need to download and install it from stepmaniathings here.

Re: characters
Actually I think the bones files were grouped altogether in a .smzip file when I downloaded it a long time ago. If you have stepmania opening it will let stepmania automatically install the bones file.
Bones files are classified as .txt documents but actually they represent points and animations where the meshes (solid parts of the character) will move and go. My bones files are located inside my characters folder. The characters that you have downloaded, for instance, has a configuration text that tells it to automatically find (or redirect) the bones files in your characters folder. You must only have ONE bones file in your characters folder. Not only in the main directory but there also should be NO other bones files found in the sub folders. For example, if you have Dred as your character and you placed the bone files inside his folder, you better delete them right away. EDIT*** Why did you create a seperate folder for the bones files? You should only place those bones files inside the main directory of the characters folder, and you should never place them in any sub folder inside the characters folder. For example, you must place the bones in the following folder: C:/Program Files/Stepmania/Characters only. Do not place it on any folder such as /stepmania/characters/bones or any other sub folder. It causes Stepmania to be confused and not find your bones file. Hope this helps.
