Day of Silence
Today's the Day of Silence incase anybody wanted to know about it this year. I personally am going to try to be silent, but I doubt that it will work since my family loves to not shut up lol. Anyhow...I am gay, but I'm sure a majority of you guys knew that though. It's something I had to accept within my teenage years of my life. It was certainly not easy...
Anyhow, share your thoughts and feelings on the subject~ |

I didn't know this was a thing and now I do. Awareness created.

Re: Day of Silence
I'd do it if I didn't live in Gaybash, Nebraska.

Re: Day of Silence
Just my opinion, being silent isn't exactly the best way to raise awareness for something. My school has done a "Day of Action" thing in past years and I feel it's a much more effective way to get the message out

Re: Day of Silence
I've got the Castro district and the biggest gay pride parade in the country so people are pretty chill about it here. They're even passing laws so that transgenders can play in sports on teams they identify with in Junior High and High School. Not sure how locker rooms work, though.
I've had two people come out to me and tell me they were gay, and each time, although it was a little awkward, I've been very supportive for them. I really think part of the issue is that so many people build their entire personality and identity based on their sexual preference, rather on what the personally love to do. Re: Day of Silence
If I was silent today, I don't think my job would've liked that, haha.

Re: Day of Silence
I feel like I made this same statement a year or two ago in a thread about this. Not saying anything seems counter intuitive to trying to make a statement about something. Yes somebody might quickly recognize that you are acting out of the ordinary and maybe for some cause, but then you can't even tell them what the point is.

Re: Day of Silence
I did this for a while, but eventually real life required me to speak to get things done. But like Izzy said, being quiet on the topic doesn't raise awareness to it, so the whole "Day of Silence" thing's messed up anyways.

Re: Day of Silence
Came out as gay a year ago, came out to a new friend yesterday at University... Subsequently, That friend quit speaking to me. Fuck hate, fuck homophobia, why can't just all be friends?
