Question [Highschool - Political Science] American vs Canadian government

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone can help me find some supporting arguments as to why the American government is better/stronger/more organized than the Canadian one.

Thanks!

Your only hope is that the Canadian goverment tries to americanize themselves so much (they have a fetish for the US's horrible prison-industrial complex for instance) that they actually become worse.

Sounds like an opinion. I don't think you are going to find any broad generalizations as to why the US government is "better".

There are probably some really specific aspects such as the time it takes to take action towards something, but who knows. You would need to do more in depth research.

At THIS particular time, you'll have a very hard time finding a good argument, since the American government is struggling in nearly every way possible these days(devaluating its currency, public and international public relations [Wikileaks uh oh], difficulty in decision making due to opposing ideas within Congress, etc.).

Instead of viewing the question as is "one better than another", I think it's easier to put the issue into a list of advantages and disadvantages...because at this point, I cannot possibly see how the American government is faring better than most other 1st-world nations today. It is certainly a disorganized mess - just review the recent November elections!

Ok then, viewing the argument this way, I can say that one disadvantage is that the Canadian economy relies too much on the American economy, while the American economy appears to manage well both with Canadian and international trade. The Canadian government should focus more on international relations. Umm, I guess another one is that Canada has a noticeably less effective military than the US.

...Do you see the problem? A lot of these "disadvantages" are not necessarily the result of the Canadian government's mismanagement of politics per se, but rather a product of the availability of our resources (e.g. the size of our population clearly would affect enrollment in the military, the amount of capital we have available for spending, etc.). The degree of the government's involvement really depends on the issue, so you have to be more specific.

IMO, it is difficult strictly to answer for the argument that the American government is indeed better, stronger, and more organized. Temporally, this might have been the case in the past, but unlikely is the case today.

I don't necessarily have to argue in favor of the U.S but since I had more points initially I thought it was a good idea. I've decided to switch and favor the Canadians

Why is Canada in better shape?
it would help if the examples were based of political culture, party politics, interest groups, legislatures, executives, or the courts.
