Default Dungeons & Dragons: Eberron Unlimited

http://www.ddo.com/

So apparently, Dungeons & Dragons (DDO for short) is going f2p. I was watching some closed beta videos on youtube and I'm very excited. I've been thinking about quitting WoW for awhile to save money and this could be my new game. There IS going to be a cash shop but I was reading on the site and all you can really get from it is minor boosts such as small XP increases, character slots, potions, and other small stuff. You cannot buy any weapons or armor to make you far more superior than other players. The points for spending in the cash shop can be earned while playing the game for doing certain achievements too, which is a pretty new thing. PvP looked amazing because instead of targeting (you can but all it does is monitor their health etc) you can dodge attacks and jump and run around, so there is much more action than other mmo's. When you challenge somebody, if they accept you are both teleported into a private arena. There are also free for all taverns that can have up to 12 people. You can make teams and the level brackets are 1-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13-16, 17-20.

It is currently in closed beta state, but it is turning into open beta on August 6th or 7th. I don't know because I couldn't find it on the official site and I found both of these searching the internet a few times. Somebody correct me.

Wait what? I have no history but DDO at all so I thought it looked cool, but could you explain why you think this?

Back in the Halcyon days of the Dungeons and Dragons franchise, it took place in a world called Greyhawk. Then Ed Greenwood got involved and D&D moved over to the Forgotten Realms and there it stayed through decades of gaming.

As of 3.0 and up through 4.0, they've sort of rebuilt a weird amalgam of Greyhawk and the Forgotten Realms, each world has years of history and development, and FR has had dozens and dozens of novels, and sourcebooks built in and around it.

Then Wizards of the Coast held a contest for random people to send in the gaming worlds that they had built. And the winner of the contest would get published. Ebberon was the world that got published, and having read the Player's Handbook equivalent, it's just a crappy world that I really don't like.

The Forgotten Realms was a much better world and setting for a game of that style.
