Underground Vs. Breakthrough [Music]
heh - Almost 3 years and only now do I start posting. So yeah - 'ning all, hope to get to know you in time.
Anyway - point of the topic at hand: Do you tend to stick with the more 'underground' music scene? Local bands, new talent, unsigned acts and the like or do you tend to stick with the mainstream acts? Whatever your response is - I'd also like to know "why". Short and sweet - yep. For me - I definately like to stick with the newer talents that surface every now and again. There's a certain "rawness" about hearing a new band perform live without all the techs that come with a well-groomed piece. This 'rawness' is something which I've come to adore over the years and is something that can only come from the small, intimate venues that these "no-bodys" play. But this isn't to say that I don't follow signed acts as well - of course I like some of that too, but there's something on the other side of the fence that keeps me on my toes. Gooooo +Edit: Heh, wrong forum. My bad. What a great first impression!

Re: Underground Vs. Breakthrough [Music]
In the grand scheme of things, I guess the music I listen to is more underground than mainstream, I guess...
But also in the grand scheme of things it's not all that underground. I don't buy a lot of demos or split albums. I buy full albums from signed bands most of the time, certainly.

Re: Underground Vs. Breakthrough [Music]
I'll almost always buy a "mainstream", but i only mean mainstream
in comparison to the lcal nobody bands, I like seeing bands that aren't all that popular, or haven't been signed, but there aren't too many shows like tht near me.

Re: Underground Vs. Breakthrough [Music]
Everything really, I like a lot. I don't know if you'd call what I listen to mainstream or underground. What I listen to isn't really listened to by a lot of people but yet it isn't underground or "new" unless you define musically that they are new.
So, I don't know. |

Re: Underground Vs. Breakthrough [Music]
I listen to what sounds good. People that only listen to underground music because they think that it makes them totally different really annoy me. It's like the other day this guy was listing all these bands he likes and whatever thinking that it made him sound really different and interesting. Then I said I listen to all those bands too and oh you should of seen the look on his face. It was a Kodak moment.
