Stepmania w/Dancemat Question
I got Stepmania with a dance mat the other week - bought it for the exercise just as much as the rhythm game aspect...
I noticed in the options there is a "Dance Mode" which uses the orthogonal pads, and a "Pump Mode" which uses the center and diagonal pads on the dance mat. Is there any way I can make stepfiles which use all 9 pads simultaneously? Are there any other versions of the game which will let me use all 9 pads simultaneously? |

Can you post a link to the type of dance mat you have?

...Apparently now it only has 1 star on Amazon... weird... Anyway yeah, it came with a version of Stepmania (3.9 rc2a, it says). It has 11 buttons - 9 pads + start + select. The "dance" mode only lets me use the 4 arrow pads, and the "pump" mode only lets me use the corners and middle pads (although I've barely played "pump" anyway...) |

Pump might work if you have an appropriate adapter that allows you to map the corners, but it's not going to be easy to play. The type of pad you get really dictates the level of play you will be able to do. Also, just some clarification about the game modes: dance: 4286 pump: 17593 technomotion: 14728963 The numbers I've put are the arrows/buttons you will be using for a given mode, in the order they appear in game (look at your numpad). Conclusion, this most likely was a good deal for what you bought. The only problem I had with PAD was, as I play harder songs, the pad moves while I play but that was easily solved by taping it down on the top-side to the floor/rug. Don't tape the bottom side because the foam can peel off. You will also start wishing you had a bar but using a desk or anything high enough and comfortable for your height works good enough. |

How do you do it with the 8 notes? Do I have to download a different game to do this? Also, there are some game modes that are blanked out when I go to the Stepmania menu - I assume these are modes for 2 mats but might there be a way of fooling the game into thinking I have 2, and mapping the input of mine to... I dunno. In reality, I'm still crap at the dance mat, and I probably wouldn't have the capability, personally, to make use of having all 9 notes... but it would be fun to try anyway. And yeah, if there's a game that lets you input 8 or 9 notes then I'd like to know more! I kinda want to see how 8 notes feels on keyboard, too - it'd be even closer to playing a real piano! Quote:

Got that same problem. I taped a thick, clear, plastic vinyl sheet on top of the whole thing you could get from home depot or w/e store. I suck so I havn't played really fast songs but so far its very sensitive and the arrows still react as if there was nothing there. I'll take a picture of what I did when I get home. Yea, I'm mad ghetto. |
