What's with the guests?
I was scrolling around, and I noticed THIS:
Attachment 24950 Methinks FFR has too many lurkers. We need a plan of ACTION to turn these outsiders into members! Or alternatively, we could just lure them in, kill them and eat them. Last edited by supermousie; 01-29-2012 at 12:19 AM.. |

Re: What's with the guests?
I think a lot of people lurk before they take the plunge.

Re: What's with the guests?
Many people find it easier to lurk before plunging into a forum community, and it's often recommended simply because it kinda allows such people to kinda know what goes on in a particular forum community before starting to post in it. Also, some people are just lazy and don't log in, or are just skimming the forums for anything new in particular. Other than that, people will lurk if they wish to, and sometimes just do it out of preference.

Definitely. A lot of people aren't into the social aspect of it. Communication is a wonderful thing. If only more people realized that.

Re: What's with the guests?
I find that most people just don't find the site appealing enough to get on or participate.

Re: What's with the guests?
I remember back when ffr was bigger there would be a 1000 or more guests and I really questioned if there was actually 1000 people not logged in but on ffr.

Re: What's with the guests?
Nah, I bet there is a room with 224 intermediate school kids all in the same room, lurking in the FFR forum, giggling to themselves about how the guest count is so high. On a serious note, they are probably just either people that haven't logged yet or people trying to read the forum just for informational purposes.

Re: What's with the guests?
I'm willing to bet that a majority of those guests are just members who probably ended up getting timed out of FFR and haven't logged back in yet. There's no way that 224 people lurk FFR.
