Scary Kids Scaring Kids... need more charts
We need 2 more songs of theirs stepped... to go with The World As We Know It for a player.
Get in touch with Drugstore for mp3s. We already have TWAWKI as a 7, so lets try and get a 2-3 and a 4-5. and then the 2-3 can also have a harder, FFR only, version. 1 month subscription for it if it gets accepted. Also, we need a stepfile for a song by Army of Freshman within the next 2 weeks. Again, talk to Drugstore about an mp3. 1 month for this too.

If someone finds the BPMs for me then I can do it. BPM changes are definitely not my specialty.

Actually 99% of the process of stepping rock files is syncing though.

Re: Scary Kids Scaring Kids... need more charts
Actually i need to correct tass.
We really need 3 files. All from their new cd that is unreleased. I have the mp3s from their new cd, and as a request from the band i can only send people that are serious about stepping the songs the mp3's. One of the songs is faces which you can check out at www.myspace.com/scarykids also, its Army Of Freshmen (with an E), tass =] www.myspace.com/armyoffreshmen |

Re: Scary Kids Scaring Kids... need more charts
oh so I didn't realize this was for a player when I was pm'd. perhaps I'll have to think about extending my subscription.
anyway, I'll think about syncing some but right now I'm tired and lazy and I have a suspicion that the songs are probably like three minutes long and that can be a real drag on my patience. so here's a copypaste of what I told rshadow (I've posted this before in a couple places): Get everything set up to make a stepfile as usual. Do not find the gap with sm, find it with a program like audacity (and then you just zoom in on the point where you want to start stepping). Choose a bpm somewhere around where you think the song is (probably in the 150 - 180 range). -put a note at the end of the song (aka if the song is three minutes long, put a note somewhere about 180-185 seconds in... holding tab makes scrolling faster, which is helpful for scrolling that far in the editor). then hit ctrl p, and hit esc. This essentially selects the entire song. -put the note selector at 64ths (or as far down as it will go, might be 128ths depending on what version of sm you have). -hit ctrl r, which is record, and will thus let you record over the entire song (since you have it all selected). -tap through the song to the beat (aka to the quarter note, most likely) on one arrow. it can be helpful to shut your eyes to focus on the sound only for this. -repeat this for at least four arrows (to do more, you'll have to have a solo or doubles chart open, but four is usually sufficient). -now go through and write down (or enter into excel) the average second at which every fourth beat hits (aka every measure). -use excel to calculate the bpm for each measure. -import those bpms either manually one by one into the editor or straight into the dwi or sm files. If you need any further explanation for a step, ask. Note: this is a tad time-consuming (maybe half an hour total for a three minute song, perhaps longer if it's your first time), but it's worth it if you want to get it right. Also, if you have a bad sense of rhythm and can't tap the beat to the song, it won't work. I also sort of skimmed over the excel part and how to get things in a format that will work for copying and pasting but eh. You guys are smart kids, I'm sure you can figure it out. |

Re: Scary Kids Scaring Kids... need more charts
That's a hell of a lot faster than normal syncing methods, really. It's a bit inexact but if you have a good sense of rhythm it should work. The only thing I'd add is to listen to the song a few times before attempting this, so that you are familiar with the song and can have a basic idea on the tendencies of the band to change tempo.

Re: Scary Kids Scaring Kids... need more charts
yeah the only way to get more exact is to open up the waveform in audacity or goldwave or whatever and try to zoom in on the hit for each measure (which can be mindlessly dull and also prone to some human error). and dore is right, it is probably the fastest way to sync rock music accurately.

Re: Scary Kids Scaring Kids... need more charts
Wow, I am horrible at this. I tried it with a rock song without many BPM changes for practice, and I am not even getting close. I think I will have to bow out on this one. Sorry.

I've got something good going... It will take a while to get this finished though. Hopefully I'll get some time this weekend between now and my re-found addiction to ninja gaiden...

oh yes. not too many, verses usually stay about the same. chorus stays the same. could be an intro and an outro change, but thats usually it.

Re: Scary Kids Scaring Kids... need more charts
Hey, Faces is actually quite a good song. Send me the album, Drugstore; I'll get as many files done as I can in the time allowed.
Edit: Thanks for the mp3s DSC, I whipped up a file for faces pretty quickly. 2 versions; an easy one going almost exclusively to the vocals, but factoring in percussion when the vocals are slow or non-existant. I'm hoping for it to snag the easy difficulty file on the player. And of course a hard one, where I layered and snooped around for chaos. I've now patched it up and sent it, hoping that it'll make it into the player.

Re: Scary Kids Scaring Kids... need more charts
as for the syncing, ddream studio can make it easier if you learn how to use it. it imports the waveform and then you just click to place each beat. does gap automatically too
