Do you ever wish you hadn't done something incredibly stupid?
If you could change one thing about something you did, what would it be?

I don't have an example right now, but with how things panned out I'm sure this guy might:

Re: Do you ever wish you hadn't done something incredibly stupid?
Honestly, nothing. I like how things are right now.
But if I HAD to choose something, I'd say I wish I didn't stop being friends with Brandi during sophomore year. We missed a lot of good times we could've spent together, and I spent that time alone and resentful, but now we're even better friends than we used to be.

If I could change one thing about something I've done, I would change that I ever wished that I could change something I've done.

Re: Do you ever wish you hadn't done something incredibly stupid?
Even though I can name a few things I'd like to change, I'm perfectly happy with my life right now. If I had to choose anything though, it probably would be related to how I wasn't aware of opportunities to enhance my math skills at a younger age.

Re: Do you ever wish you hadn't done something incredibly stupid?
I only get to choose 1??? There's a bazillion things I would like to change, like I want to go back in time and punch that bitch in grade 8 like she had coming to her, that I hadn't been such of a wuss in highschool and just told the guy that I liked straight up in person that I liked him instead of using ICQ, that I never went out or at least broke up far sooner with a guy I dated for oh, 3 years, that I stuck with the research assistant job I had because I'd probably be doing my phd now if I had...I could go on
I mean, I think most of these things weren't incredibly stupid. The stupid things I've done involved me not keeping my mouth shut for the most part, but I don't think they changed my life overmuch. Last edited by Cavernio; 10-24-2011 at 12:31 PM.. |

D: If I could change one thing, it would be me not picking up Video Games. I should've been out playing with other kids, and it may have been a benefit. But even then I wont ever be content with everything I change.

Re: Do you ever wish you hadn't done something incredibly stupid?
Well, you'll eventually end by doing something another incredibly stupid thing in your life if you forget the incredibly stupid thing you did. Just move on and deal with these phenomena. The more empirical informations you get (ie the quantity of different experiences), the more able you will be to see your future. Experience may badly bias you at more than once occurrence, but it's the best tool you'll get in your life since it's a matter you can endlessly work on (I mean, experience in itself isn't very interesting, it's just like a bunch of lego bricks)
EDIT : Thinking about it, it's because you lived these "incredibly stupid things" you swear to yourself you'd undo it if you could, which means your past-self (which is unexperimented) could not deal with the experience with the same view as your post-self (aka, the current person you are right now) because you couldn't get that very experience. That experience you're regretting right now. I mean, everybody at every time makes a mistake, endlessly correcting what you did directly from the past will end up with further disasters you'll want to correct the same way. You just have to manage to live with what you did, just find the reason of that mistake. I think it's another to problem to see how you can deal with these entities you keep regretting, because it's a problem on which the solution depends of the fact in itself, we would have to elaborate a whole system to see what to do. (I'm putting the "critical" in the "thinking" of this thread)

Re: Do you ever wish you hadn't done something incredibly stupid?
Well, there was this one time. When I was young (read 14 years old), my friend's family used to go camping near a lake during summer vacation. A year, my friend decided to invite me to go with them for about 2 weeks. The thing is, my friend and I had sort of bet going on. The goal was to get a girlfriend before the other one and since at that time, neither of us had a girlfriend. Lucky for us, there was a girl with us this year which neither of us had heard about. Obviously, these two weeks were going to be spent flirting day and night. Time passed and thinking I was finally able to confess my "feelings" to this girl, I invited her to go visit one of the small islands that were situated in the center of the lake. The method to go there was of course by boat, but a boat in which you needed to paddle. It was around 10h30 PM that I decided to confess. We were under the moonlight, halfway through our destination and I judged to mood to be great. I then threw the paddles away as far as I could and the confessed. I thought I did great until I was met with rejection. Because I had thrown the paddles away, we were left there, floating in the middle of nowhere with basically nothing except awkward silence. Turns up I had to wet myself because I was stupid enough to have thrown the paddles away. I then proceeded to enjoy about 20 minutes of awkward silence on our back to the camp.
My friend couldn't stop laughing. That's it xD There is another story involving an accidental and very embarrassing landing of a warm and white liquid on somebody's hair but that's just way too embarrassing to tell lol. Last edited by Artic_counter; 10-24-2011 at 08:00 PM.. |

There's one thing bothering me : If that thread is mainly about people talking about their life, why isn't it in ChitChat ?

Re: Do you ever wish you hadn't done something incredibly stupid?
I'm assuming the OP wanted to avoid jokes and flames about this because they feel they have made a serious mistake in their lives that has dire consequences. (Not that that makes it anymore CT...especially since they have yet to say anything to turn the topic CT instead of chit chat...)
There's plenty of things that I want to have not happened in my life too, but I don't want to take them back because they seem like inevitabilities, or else other ways of dealing with them would be worse than how I did deal with them. |

Moved to Chit Chat. Feel free to report the OP of a thread if you believe it is in the wrong forum.

Lots of situations where it turned out really embarassing for me. Yup. I'd change all those.

Nothing, all my mistakes are part of me, how I think, how I act, how I live, all faults were meant to learn from.

Re: Do you ever wish you hadn't done something incredibly stupid?
Fool proof contraceptive right there.
If I could change something it would have to be trying harder in middle / high school. Not that it really matters, but it would have helped better myself. That doesn't really resolve the threads initial problem. Obviously your mistakes are a part of you, but some of those mistakes could have made you a worse person. Is that a good thing to you? Re: Do you ever wish you hadn't done something incredibly stupid?
Sure, it seems nice to do differently afterwards, but bad decisions don't really bother me; I leave them for what they are.
