Caffeine/Tea/Chocolate = Skillboosting?
Wondering if anyone thinks coffee, tea or cocoa enhances skillboosting. I ordered some L-Theanine and supposedly Theanine is an amino acid found in Green Tea like 10mg per cup. I read some medical studies on google scholar that show 100mg Theanine+Caffeine improve "hit rate accuracy", whatever that means!
"We found an increase in hit rate and target discriminability (d′) for the combined treatment relative to placebo, and an increase in d′ but not hit rate for caffeine alone, whereas no effects were detected for L-theanine alone." http://jn.nutrition.org/content/138/8/1572S.long Unfortunately I don't think they were playing FFR in that study I also heard that consuming cocoa makes you win nobel prizes. http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/....46.58-PM1.png So what do you think of tea/chocolate for skillboosting? Is it legitimate? What is your experience with caffeine and FFR? P.s., I made some brownies this morning and skillboosted. |

Caffeine can improve your performance a little (maybe a little bit of speed) but I wouldn't rely on it just on that for a skillboost. Too much caffeine causes jitters too...which isn't really good for trying to AAA things. Caffeine is also addicting as fuck.

I swear LordCarlos is winning smartest poster at next year's forum awards.
I thought this was more of a given than a what if question. I mean caffeine helps you much in the way energy drinks do: they boost your energy for a short period of time, then you crash. Concerning if it actually boosts your skill in FFR, i think it does, however I believe it isn't needed. When I play, I try to empty my mind and think about nothing while playing a song. I liken this much to the way caffeine stimulates your mind. However if I blink at the wrong time, or if I fidget too much, I lose my combo and/or my AAA run. I compare this to what happens when you have a lot of caffeine, and you start to crash. |

Re: Caffeine/Tea/Chocolate = Skillboosting?
SA's evaluation of the cocoa result was asinine. It does not have anything to do with winning Nobel prizes, lol. One of the strongest predictors of whether you can win a Nobel is your IQ, insofar as being outside that range will severely lower your chances. (Once you're in that IQ range, the strongest predictor probably has to do with personality variables and work history.)
With that said, any stimulant is going to be a performance-enhancing drug for a game like FFR. The performance-enhancing effects of caffeine in strength/power sports are well known, so naturally this will have carryover to FFR which is itself a muscle-oriented game. Many stronger stimulants exist than caffeine. To name a few: - DMAA (legal to buy in powder form, but not to include as a dietary supplement) - ephederine (legal in Canada, sort-of legal in the US and if not barely enforced / not legal to buy OTC) - pseudoephederine aka Sudafed (legal, though limits on how much you can buy per month) - amphetamine, aka Adderall (legal with a prescription, otherwise Schedule II controlled substance) - 2-fluoroamphetamine (unscheduled, legal as a research chemical -- though if you have prior beef with the police, may be enforceable under drug analogue act) - methamphetamine aka Desoxyn (legal with a prescription in extreme cases of ADHD, otherwise schedule II drug and strongly pursued by police, you already know what this is) - cocaine (illegal schedule II substance, you don't need me to tell you what this is) The term you're looking for by the way is not "skillbooster" but "performance-enhancing drug" since that's what caffeine is, it's just a legal PED. I wrote a thread on PEDs and a few people asked me about PED application to FFR. You can read it here: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...d.php?t=139822 |
