song difficulty?

every song i download from this site is always on either heavy or challenge when i play stepmania why is that? I'm a beginner so i play on light but that doesn't matter the song still comes out on heavy or challenge. Is there a reason for this? Please help!

You can only play the songs at the difficulty that the person making the song wrote steps for it.

A lot of the time, if you download a song showing a 1/2/3/4/5 as the difficulty, there actually aren't 5 sets of steps, they just didn't take the time to delete the empty files, leaving you with only one (usually hard/challenge) stepfile to play.

Try downloading some songs that -only- display a 1, 2 or 3 as their difficulty, since that means that they -only- have beginner/light/standard steps.

i would also recommend downloading some of the official DDR stepcharts.... those will be much easier. generally, the people making files make them harder, because the official charts aren't. that, and people who play them tend to be more skilled.

you can get official ddr charts/packs from ddrfreak. they also should all have 3-5 difficulties.
