Vista woes? BEGONE!
This is only for people who have upgraded to vista
Do you have windows vista? Are you considering quitting ffr because your PA is terrible? Do you feel that it is not your fault? Would you like for me to fix it? All good questions and hopefully be the end of this your problems will be gone forever. Now, the route of the vista lag problem is sooooooo so so so so simple that it LITERALLY took me 5 seconds to look up a fix (lol google). The problem is your keyboard driver, not vista. Vista is a very good system and has few flaws which impair the proper functioning of ffr. The driver problem is no one's fault but the computer retailer's (or who ever setup vista on our computer, for more information see the link at the bottom of this post). Anyway on to the solution: STEP 1: System restore Make sure this is turned on and you have all your data backed up. If you **** the next steps up, it is Not my fault. Back up your damn data. If you don't know how to do this, then don't even bother trying the next steps. STEP 2: registry editing Ok go to your start menu, open up Run. Type in this word exactly without quotes, "regedit". STEP 3: once registry editor is open, click the plus sign beside the word HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Then click the plus sign beside the word SYSTEM. Then click the plus sign beside the word CurrentControlSet. Then click the plus sign beside the word Services. Then again beside the word i8042prt. Then click on parameters. This is all done in the SIDE window. STEP 4: on the right hand window you should see several words with numbers beside them. DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING BESIDES WHAT I AM ABOUT TO TELL YOU! Look for PollStatusIterations, click it and a small window should popup. STEP 5: The window should be labeled Edit DWORD Value. inside it there should be the name of the DWORD and a text box with a hexidecimal value in it. Beside the text box should be 2 dot checks for hex and decimal. check decimal and enter the Value of 1 into the text box. Close everything and reboot your system. EDIT: quick fix, if you don't have a PollStatusIterations DWORD then make one and follow the steps That is it, thank you. Source of information: http://searchwincomputing.techtarget...246895,00.html refer to that link for more details as to why you lag and for more help. If you feel i have left out crucial information then please do not hesitate to let me know and i will amend this document. -And0id, solvin your vista woes : D

Re: Vista woes? BEGONE!
Or you could be smart and use Linux/Kubuntu which is faster, uses less space (OS), free, close to impossible to get spyware/viruses (In tests the worst virus that was obtained was one that changed the time, lmao), and looks pretty. =P
Good guide anyways, don't see why people use Vista though. It's expensive and not worth it.

Re: Vista woes? BEGONE!
Hardly anybody (INCLUDING people who don't belong to internet communities) knows what the hell Unbuntu or even what Linux is. Plus if your not very computer savvy I'm sure people wouldn't want to have to download all sorts of things just to do what they could do with Vista.

Re: Vista woes? BEGONE!
Also android. You could export the registry file, and make it available to people.

Re: Vista woes? BEGONE!
i think a confirmation on the validity of my walk-through would be better before this thread is stickied, just to be sure since i don't have vista and can't verify this myself. Although im fairly confident in my findings :/
EDIT: Zag the edit is literally inserting a 1 where there was none before, no need for a reg file to be posted.

Anyways I was just saying it's better in the long-term, as a lot of people end up having to reformat their computers for dumb reasons. =P Oh wellll. EDIT: fido123, you only have to download like 5 things, everything else updates when you go into the Adept Package Manager! Firefox, Cedaga/Wine, aMSN .. actually, that's all you need if all you do is chat/play FFR and SM. Kopete, Konqueror, and many other functions are already included. =) Sorry for going off-topic, didn't realize where I posting this until I finished. O.o

Re: Vista woes? BEGONE!
I thought the random goods were caused by framerate issues, not lagging input from keystrokes.

Re: Vista woes? BEGONE!
This will help about 50% of the people that do it. If your system is a beast then this should help you. If not then you will still suffer from the Vista and Flash issue.
Opera runs FFR somewhat like Mozilla. Its sad to say, but IE has them both beat when it comes to playing FFR. On the mention of open source OS'. Yes, these are the best OS' to run. I stay with an Ubuntu/XP dual boot. If you are adventurous with PC's, try one! |

Re: Vista woes? BEGONE!
And use online guides first before you try anything so you don't do anything like setting up partitions wrong, unless you're planning to replace the current OS on your computer. And you also might want to check if your graphics card is supported, or many graphical things won't run so well and you'll be very disappointed. Mine used to be supported till Edgy Eft or Feisty Fawn got released
