FFR T-Shirt Design Contest

[Tasselfoot]

I've mentioned it a few times over the past few months, and it's finally a reality. We're holding a contest to design the next FFR T-shirt! The winner will have their design used for our next shirt AND will receive the first shirt, hot off the press, for free.

Things to know or keep in mind:
-Needs to be done in 300dpi or higher OR in vector (think Illustrator)
-The more colors in the design, the more the shirt will cost (so try to limit it to 2 colors)
-Shirts with front and back designs (vs just front) will cost more as well
-The design shouldn't be bigger than 12" wide by 14" tall
-We'll be choosing finalists based on design as well as cost to produce

Designs can be PMed to Tasselfoot. From there, the admin team will convene in our secret lair and decide on a few designs as finalists. Then everyone will get to vote on their favorite from the finalists. The design with the highest vote total will win. The rest of the finalists will receive subscription prizes!

Artists have until January 7th, 2008 to get their submissions sent in.

if you want us to do higher res images here, it might be helpful to give us higher res logos to work with

I mean, I made up my own high dancing guy image, but I don't think others would be as crafty as I. Also: i made a ton of designs a very long time go; go find the old threads those are my entries :)

Perhaps a better idea would be CONCEPTS. You guys choose the best CONCEPT and produce the art in high res yourselves.

Are designers like myself going to be provided with the proper resources to create such? I don't mean buying us copies of Photoshop (duh), I mean .PSDs with hi-res versions of FFR logos (like the dancing guy).

also, about hi-res stuff.... look at the all-skill shirt. there are no pre-designed FFR Logos in that. It's all from scratch. I'll see what I can do for logos that we have, but the best designs will almost certainly be more creative than just manipulating the FFR Guy.

i'm hoping the people who take their time and put thought and effort into it will. i've gotten 3 submissions so far, and i'm fairly certain none of them meet the initial reqs listed in the OP.

i know we've got a few on the site that will... and that understand you can't just whip up an image in paint and slap it on the background of a shirt. that you have to actually use a big boy program to design it.

I initially picked the 7th, because that is when I get back to CA from the east coast. I can easily extent it to the 17th... because I have to immediately fly back to the east cost from the 13th-17th.

Won't change it currently, but will give another news post in about a week, and will or will not update then.

You need to understand that these are probably going to be done using a silk screen press, which means it can't even print GRADIENTS of a color, so that means two SOLID colors, nothing in between or variants of it.

Here's another one. Much better, learned about 5 new things while making it O_o
A broken finger with the slogan "Pain is the feeling of weakness leaving the body". :D
Not quite finished, can't find something nice to do to get rid of that squareness in the picture above the slogan. I also darkened it a lot, and used some size-17 airbrushing because the person in the background has a large belly. :P
And, anyone with better skill than me (90% of the FFR community) is more than welcome to use the slogan. I'll also give you a link to the font I used, called FuturistStencil (http://www.searchfreefonts.com/archive/zip/FuturistStencilRegular16.zip), it matches well with the slogan.

If I might butt my head in, the only one posted that I would even consider buying would be the one madmatt posted (http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd299/madmatt621/FFRT-ShirtContest05.jpg).

A shirt needs to be simple, yet unique. Clever, yet classy. Iconic, yet new. You guys aren't very good at this.

A concept I'd like, personally, even if it's not innovative: a simple white shirt with just a blue arrow on it (either up or down). URL would probably be on the back. In addition, the sleeves and collar would be blue as well.

Has anyone done a good vector of the FFR arrow that doesn't use a whole lot of colors?

Urmmm... I'm only doing one shirt design for the contest because school starts tomorrow for me and I ran out of time, lol. I was gonna do one with a slogan "In Soviet Russia... FFR plays YOU!", but I dismissed it because one, it's not original, and two, it's dumb in my opinion, haha. I have a question about the contest: When we enter our submissions in, would it need to be the .psd/.ai file or as an image (.jpg, .png, etc etc)? I think it would be easier to just send it as the first option, imo. If I send an image, I'm going to have to shrink the image to the sizes above.

Are gradients considered tons and tons of colours? (A lot of people seem to be using them) I was under the impression that a single defined colour was necessary, no gradients, no opacity changes to fade with the background colour, etc.

ps. helvetica is the best type face for stand out stuff, if your computer even has it, its copyrighted now, and you most likely have to buy it, some comps come with it. (watched a documentary, apparently helvetica is EVERYWHERE, for the simple fact that it just works.)

umm, ya, i never made a shirt, so my idea's might suck, and being i cant get into a grove for design yet, i cant think of anything with emotion to it to make it good, i think with the general 9/10 people's idea's for right now.

It's simple, and still portrays what the site is about. The wall of death one might be a bit confusing to anyone who hasn't played this sort of game, or even anyone who hasn't played Vrofl. These shirts are kind of like a wearable advertisement for the site, and IMO should be used to draw in new members, putting the WOD on a shirt just doesn't cut it in that area.
