I figure nobody has read it here, but I can hope. Its a short book thats very confusing, and I'm trying to find someone to help me. Oh, and the wierdest thing is it has nothing to do with lords, flies or anything like that.
After reading paranoia's answer, I just realized that I should go to some book club place. Everyone here will just post silly meaningless answers. well not everyone.
this topic needs to be locked, or something.

I've read it. It's a fantastic book. Consider it as symbolic of modern communism.

Yeah, I read it a few years ago in 5th grade. It's a pretty cool book -- kinda graphic though...

Oh yeah. Especially when the kid gets murdered when they push the boulder on him (crushing the minority) and they describe how his brains leaked out and stuff *shudder*. Good book. That and Animal Farm, same author if I'm not mistaken.

No, it was not written by George Orwell. I forget who wrote it, but it wasn't him.

William Golding wote it.

That's right, my bad, they were just produced by the same publishers, so the styles of the books were exactly the same.

It's a really terrible book. It's like he tried to hammer the idea of a microcosm into the reader with a mallot. OK. WE GET IT. THE KIDS ACT LIKE SOCIETY. GREAT JOB WITH SUBTLETY THERE.

Yes, that is what the story is about.
Some key Ideas:
The "Lord of the Flies" (the Decapitated Pig's Head) says to Simon something along the lines of "I am the beast in everyone" or something like that. In other words "the beast" is that of the primative nature that lies in every human being. It is the natural instinct of Kill or be killed in a sense. It is a savage instinct.
The beasty is a dead parachuter that got was shot down during a dog fight. The world of LOTF was at war during the same time as the children on the island were.
The fat kid (piggy) is the voice of reason. Jared (or whoever the main kid is, I forgot the name) is the voice of democracy, the other kid with the red hair (the evil one) the voice of a totalarian society. The little children are the genereal population.
I'll look for the essay I wrote on this a year ago.

That's exactly my point. It's so blatently obvious what the symbolism is that he even goes so far as to say that the "lord of the flies" is the beast in everyone. There's no subtlety at all in that story, which, I guess, is why it's tought in early high school.

Master_of_PARANOiA, you say you can read 360 pages at a rate of less than 10 seconds per page? Unless you have those palm-swipe readers they advertise on HSN, you better do the math before you lie.

I can read (and I mean read every word and undertand) about a page a minute on a fast book and about a page every 2 minutes on a very slow one.

how does you reading at a certain rate have anything to do with how fast someone else reads

Well, are you saying you believe that he read it in 10 minutes?

well are you gonna bypass my question

February 7th, 2004, 01:38 PM
that's not an answer, it's just what you do when you know you are arguing a moot point. So, are you going to bypass my question?

no i wont...do i think the book can be read in 10 minutes...certainly, guiness records says it can be done...do i think paranoia did it...no of course not...i never was even arguing that...i simply asked what your rate of reading has to do with anyone elses...i think you look at everything on these forums as an arguement somehow
VxDx
February 7th, 2004, 03:21 PM
Or maybe I was showing that I, an average reader, read a page every 1-2 minutes, whereas Paranoia claims to read at less than 10 seconds per page. That seems to me, to prove that he was most likely lying. Besides, I'm not the one who made an issue out of what I said, that was you. So, I thik that you look at everything on these forums as an arguement... BIATCH!!!

what?! i didnt make an arguement i made a statement and then you, instead of answering my question, made it into an arguement of a 'moot point'...

Why is it that whenever you guys meet in a forum you start a debate between each other? Just end it here and now.

I think you should go back and read the posts.
I'll summarize...
Me: I can read a page in 1-2 minutes
you: whopdiefreakindo
me: I was just saying that Master of Paranoia didn't read it in 10 minutes.
you: what's your point?
me: well do you think he read it that fast?
you: answer my question
me: why must you argue about this? and you didn't answer my question.
you: I don't think he read it that fast
me: well I was saying that I can't read that fast, and I don't think he can.
you: stop arguing

i made a valid point that cant be proven and you still intend on arguing over it...or at least something related to it...i said just because you read the book doesnt have anything to do with how fast he reads it...you cant prove either way whether he read it in 10 minutes or not...and if you wanted to just say that he couldnt read it that fast, why didnt you just say that instead of replying with how fast you read easy and tough books...basic fact is there was no arguement at least on my part, but in some way you now created one...and instead of saying 'oh i misunderstood you', you just continue to try to redeem yourself for your mistake...give it up

Of course I can't prove whether or not he can read it that fast. Of course how fast I can read a book does not directly correlate to how fast he reads a book. I posted how fast I read. So what? Why is this an issue to you? Why do you take offense to my saying how fast I read? Why does it offend you that I didn't just give the most simplistic and generic response and, instead, decided to add my own personal insight?
I didn't start any argument. And there still isn't one. I don't think he can read that fast. Apparantly neither do you. Yet, you still make an issue out of what I said, when you really just agreed with my point.

I'm sorry about making an issue out of nothing. It's just, my little asian boy left me the other day, and I've been without one for a little while now, and it's starting to wear on me. You know, I thought I gave him all the fried rice he could want, but then he up and leaves.
