FFR Tournament: Round 1

[Shashakiro]

Round 1 is now over. If you aren't in a tiebreak situation, scores you submit will not be accepted.

An additional day has been added to Round 1 in which only tiebreak scores may be submitted. This day will end on Tuesday, September 19th.

Rule changes regarding tiebreakers

-If a player submits a score that causes a tie on the last day of the round (i.e. after 10:00 AM on Sunday, September 17) then there will be an additional day after the round ends in which only tiebreak scores may be submitted.

-If players tie on the tiebreak song, they will submit scores on One Minute Waltz [Classic] to determine the winner. If they tie on that, they will submit scores on Revolutionary Etude [Classic].

Hi! The first round of the tournament starts right now, and ends exactly one week from when this thread is posted (10:00 AM EST, Monday, September 18). Here you'll find what division you're in, who you're playing against, and most important of all, what song you'll be playing.

Tiebreaker: Crystalis - House Leaves (Remix) [Arcade]

Quick rules recap:

Play the main song for your division, get the best score you can (without using secret arrows or otherwise cheating), take a screenshot, and send screenshots to me either by forum PM or email at shashakiro@yahoo.com. If you use email, make sure you make it clear what your FFR name is, or your score will not be counted. It's ok to send in more than one screenshot--the last one you send will be the only one counted.

Remember, only play the tiebreaker song if ***AAA TIE--PLAY TIEBREAKER*** or ***UNDER AAA TIE--IMPROVE SCORE OR PLAY TIEBREAKER*** appears next to your name in the matchups. Right now it says "No score" next to everyone's name, which I'll update to "Submitted" as I receive screenshots.

Also remember that you must submit scores only from the start of the round on, and submitting any older screenshot will be grounds for disqualification.

Here you'll find what division you're in and whom you're up against. If you're having trouble finding your name, just hit ctrl + F and type in your username, which should bring you to your matchup. A number in parentheses before your name means that you're a seeded (top) player in your division. Note that if you're in Advanced and it says that you "wait", that means that you do NOT play this round (but you'll play the next round). Every player in Advanced will wait in at least one round.

The tiebreakers are hard enough so that this shouldn't happen. If it does, that'll be something of a pickle...I might just go with whoever submits it first...but really, I don't think two people will be AAA'ing tiebreakers against each other.

You're free to get a score on a tiebreaker song before it's necessary, but I will ignore tiebreaker scores that are submitted before a tie is reached.

If you really think both of you will AAA the main song, just get a score on the tiebreaker, save the screenshot, and submit it when necessary.

Mother of God AAA was enough BY ITSELF for at least top 10 in Advanced. You had a strong levelrank.php, so you got a seed.

And you should be disappointed if you were placed in a higher division, not a lower one...lower means a better chance of winning =P

From the looks of things, Expert might see at least a couple tiebreaks this round.

The one division where I have seriously no clue who will win or who even has an advantage is Beginner. It's a pretty open field there, and I really think there are a lot of people with a good shot.

Baha and Shark are pretty strong favorites in their divisions, but that doesn't mean they can't be beaten.

Ehh, Chaos, the PrntScrn button only copies the window when you hit it, meaning it takes a picture of it and stores it in your paste function..
Open up any picture program, preferably MS paint, and then click the edit button on the toolbar, and click paste. Then save it to your desktop. Afterwards, go to www.photobucket.com and create a free account. Then click browse, to search for the picture you just saved to your desktop. Click upload, and it should upload onto photobucket.
Yet, that is not necessary. That is if you want to post a picture onto ffr, to email one to shash, open up your email account, state your name in the subject.. and attach your Screen Shot ( the one you saved to your desktop), and send it to shash.
EDIT: And no, you do not need to crop the picture, that is just more hassle.

The goal is to keep all the divisions competitive. Without reserved spots in Expert, it won't be competitive, and Expert would be more like "hey Bahamut have $100" than an actually competitive division.

Not everything has to be first-come-first-serve...the people who've worked at and practiced the game enough to be able to compete in Expert should get to, even if they didn't happen to show up between 2 AM and 1 PM on a sunday night.

If Shash put you in beginner then you are just that, beginner. It's organized according to whoever signed up, so if 64 people who signed up are better than you at FFR then you have no chance of getting into advanced regardless of how good you think you are.

Besides, winning in ANY of the brackets would take a lot of skill. Just because you think you're advanced, doesn't downsize the fact that you would still need a lot of skill to win the beginner's bracket. PLus, there's no shame in winning 70 bucks XD.

And for another tournament, I think a way to do it would be to have no signups and no brackets. The 1st round starts with whatever song. Anybody who wishes to enter would submit a SS, the top 256 scores would make it through. Then, the next round, everyone in those 256 would submit scores for the song and the top 128 make it through, so on and so forth. Then, for the last 16/32, there would be a bracket put in place, with seeding based on the earlier rounds.

1. the FFR League Season 1 was run TERRIBLY.... but with the help of myself and Freak, League Season 2 was MUCH MUCH better.

2. I told Shash that league 1/2 had ~1000 people in them each... he chose not to listen to me as to how big of a deal a main page post is. Also, this whole tourney HAS BEEN fairly spontaneous... I'm shocked that we have $250 in prizes from Synth for it. Absolutely shocked.

Overall rank is just a good indicator, not necessarily the final word. Someone with good average rank but a coule random songs they haven't played in funk or something bringing them down to 500 would be ranked ahead of (I assume) someone who had 500 with trying on every song.

In Advanced, seedings only matter from 1-16. If you aren't seeded, all that means is that you're in the other 32--the order in the matchups is random.

That would be a good guess. For instance if a match starts on a Monday (like this one) it won't end untill the following Monday. While that puts you at a disadvantage compared to the others, you still have two days to submit a score :)

I actually think Beginner is going to be interesting...There's a lot of decent people in it that just didn't make it to advanced and with the easier stuff we're going to be getting compared to everyone else....Fun fun fun
