Bushido Blade
Bushido Blade was released for the PlayStation in 1997, developed by Squaresoft.
This game is the absolute bomb. I've played many a fighting game, and I'm saddened that to my knowledge a game like this one hasn't been done in a long time.
It's like this:
You versus the other guy. No health bars. No time limit. No hyper combo finishes. Just you with your trusty Katana, versus the other guy (who let's just say also has a katana). And I'm talking like, a REAL Katana. Not the one where if you're sliced you're knocked back and your health bar decreases. This is the Katana where you can kill the other guy in one blow and win the match.
Oh, screw it. I don't want to take the time to go into detail about why this game is so much fun, so I'll summarize:
For once in a fighting game, you feel like a real samurai because you give and recieve blows like in a real battle. If you get cut in the leg, you continue the battle on one knee, and depending on what ground you're standing on, you can throw dirt in your enemy's eyes while you're crouched. You can completely travel all around the battle stage in free movement (not stuck facing your opponent only being able to go foward or back). You can run down your opponent just like in all the climatic samurai movies. Rather than almost every other fighting game, the gameplay is not about button combinations, but precise timing in your attacks and quick reflexes in parrying blows.
And multiplayer Versus mode is god-like fun. I had so much fun playing this game with my little brother, maybe even more fun than SSBM.
So yeah. This old school game keeps it real.

Realistic? Blasphamy D: Sounds pretty cool, but better than SSBM in multiplayer? I'd have to check that out to believe it, except I don't have a Playstation ;)

Then don't post, you moron.
Bushido Blade is supposedly pretty good, but I seriously doubt it's withstood the test of time as well as other fighters have. I've never played it because it looked really mediocre back in the day.

I saw the topic title and was like, "Man, Bushido Blade is the best. I bet he's going to say some stupid sword fighting game I've never heard of".
Yes, Bushido Blade is great. Number 2 is a lot better than the first, I think.
One of the best things about this game is that you can say to your friend:
Hey! Look over there!
Huh?
(Proceed to throw a sword through your friend's head)
Yeah, that is the best. Or tricking them to press select.
Or being the disco guy and doing a victory dance off of a cliff.
Oh man, I need to play this again now.

HAHAHA
Oh man, yes. One of my favorite things to do in multiplayer when facing off my friend is just during the beginning of a random match, kill him when the characters are bowing. It's dishonorable, but it's hilarious watching your friend go "WTF DUDE"

This game was amazing, I was so horrible at it cause I was like, seven when it came out but I'd watch my friends play it and it's such an awesome game for it's time period. An updated version of it would be simply amazing. I think I'm gonna try and find this game just so I can buy it.
Oh, and best thing to do, be the guy with the gun and sit there shooting the other person.

This game rocked. It is better than SSBM in a few areas.

I hated this game so much. My friend always got the guy with the Nigata and I
always choose a guy with a katana. He would then procede to poke me in the chest and face until I died.

Oh man I totally forgot about BB. That game wuz the kicks back in the day. It would tank nowdays though. All these newfangled Soul Caliber players "OMFG I'M DEAD TOO FAST. GUHHH."
But yeah. I actually only played for like 5 hours at friends house one day a few years back. Not actually qualified to give a real comment.

Yeah, I rented it once, then once again about four years later, but if I bought it, it may take the fun out of it. Same for Way of the Samurai, and I won't buy 2.

This Game was a very aquired taste. I liked it though. True what people on this thread have said about this game being funny multiplayer. It was. Me and my friends always had a counter and attack theme going on. We would be just frozen waiting for the attack. It was like a western, and dam heartbreaking when you lost, after waiting so long. Good game. We used to settle "who gets the last piece of pizza" with this game, we once had a tournament over the last packet of crisps. Good old days........

I had that game, quite a long time ago, very interesting. Seems your not the only one that likes realistic sword fighting games. Although I do personally enjoy FPS's more, you have definately picked the best one, I'd think that Dynasty Warriors would come second.
