View Full Version : 3D, anyone?

I hear some people 'round here know how to use a 3D imaging program. Well, I have a request that I hear needs one of those. It got ignored (for the most part) in the Sig/Av thread, but maybe someone here's looking to show their stuff when it comes to 3D art.
I'm looking for an avatar that fits this description:
Okay, you have a gray, translucent sphere. Inside this sphere is a hemisphere that is also gray and translucent and opens to the left. At the middle of the spheres is a small point of light.
Any takers? I'll be very appreciative.
EDIT: Changed all references of black to gray, to make some sense.

Uh, Hayden... I appreciate the effort, but there are a number of things that don't quite match my description. Namely the idea of translucence, the fact that there isn't a hemisphere inside the sphere (that we can see, at least), no point of light, and there's red.
I guess the idea of something being black and translucent at the same time is a bit confusing, so let's just say it should be translucent gray.

Is this what you want?

Made in Lightwave 8.

Really close, virus, thanks! One alteration, though, would be a distinct point of light in the very middle. One, so as to not have that fading on the hemisphere. Two, because for the sake of what it represents, there needs to be a source of emission.
Thanks again.

Orbitals? Please, that's baby stuff. I'm talking the creation of the universe.

There is a point of light in the middle, but how should I make it "distinct"? Apply volumetrics? Lens flare? Put surface reflections/specularity on the spheres? Try and be more specific.
Also, the sphere is not only translucent, but transparent, so you can see the one inside.

Also, virus maker, add more polygons, that's nasty rough, yo. D:

By the way, is anyone else here interested in 3D? I'd like to share some of my projects with other 3D artists and get some feedback. I guess im decent at modeling, but I'd like to hear other opinions.
Maybe I'll start a new thread for this.
