Not a long while ago, I got this link from Penny Arcade about some independent platformer named "Cave Story."

WWWOOOOOAAAAHHHH. Like, frikkin game of the summer. I highly suggest it, it's one totally rockin' platformer RPG with awesome music and insanely fun gameplay. Need I say more? Oh, and a pretty interesting plot too.

Awesome. I just fought a mutated bunny, got a fireball shooter, and increased my missle capacity by 5. The gameplay is almost like Metroid, but with some RPG elements, much more kawaii, and, dare I say it, FUNNER.

Noob. It's the ultimate anti-boss weapon. It's level 2 attack has the highest attack power (though you have to get really close for it to hit) and it's level 3 attack lingers in the air for an extra second to do even more damage.

Do you guys know how old this is? AGTP translated it back in December '04.

Also, don't use 1.0.0.6 or the patch for it. Get 1.0.0.5, as 1.0.0.6 has a glitch that causes the game to crash in Labyrinth M.

Ok so I went down to 1.0.0.5 and still it keeps crashing in exactly the same place when I have it in 640x or in full screen it closes down. What do I do?

Hehehe, i found that if you fire the lv. 3 machinegun down while your in midair you can make something of a jetpack, makeing the boots useless.
I know that you get real jetboots later, but they dont have the flexibility of the machine gun.
This machine gun levitation gets even better once you get the booster that makes it get ammo faster.
I've taken out numerous bosses with the levitating machine gun trick.

Another edit: Also, use Win RAR to unzip the first download, and i have had no problems with the 1.0.0.6 update.

Yet another edit: ...... well, i found the point you guys were talking about.... and i always crash in the same spot....

Downloading Version 1005 will get you the same problem. Install a version of the game wihtout the patch, it's the patch that scrwes it up.

So the english patch only works up to that point?

No, I believe once you get past the Waterway part of the game, it will work normally. Like, it won't work in the Waterway, but if you take a stop in the room with the bed save point that's in the Waterway stage, it will work in there, until you decide to step back out into the Waterway. Once you finish Waterway, the patched version should work fine.

Blitz Saves the day. It's also the english patch version which does it.
I found a download to the 1.0.0.5 game version and the 1.0 english patch version installed on it.

It has already been patched with 1.0 so you can just put the profile.dat from your old game into the new working game folder. Everything will work fine. Just tried it. =D

Yeah, I gotta admit, if I hadn't pulled up an FAQ for the Weapon X boss, I probably wouldn't have gotten the Tow Rope either. Right now, I'm at the Twin Dragons.

That boss was the biggest pain in my ass. I died about six times fighting it... That was just a pain having to kill the roaches every time. And I would always get his life down a siginifigant portion, and then he'd knock my machine gun level down, so I'd scurry around shooting the green orbs trying to power it back up... Grr...

Use lv2 bubbler when they start being asses, then unload your missiles.

I should replay this to get all the secret crap i missed (everything).

I just Super Missel'd them the entire time. They gave me a little trouble at first because I was still using my Machine Gun, but after I figured out they were called Super Missles I went and leveled them up... Cake.
