Which is why you try to find the big keys on your keyboard, unless they're all small in which case you're fuced lol.

Hmm... Shift keys, Backspace, enter, 0 (number pad), + sign (also number pad), caps lock, tab. I think about one of those is usable in FFR, I could be wrong.

You might have a mushy keyboard like my laptop one - the keys don't fall and rise fast enough for overlay so my score is stuck as is xd

I don't have that kind of luck either. I had to remap my keys to Left Shift/Z and =/Backspace so that I had enough room to do the actual trill (of course on Velocity's engine, since you can't map certain keys like those on the legacy engine). Do it right and instead of it being a 64th LRLRLRLR... trill, it turns into a 32nd (LR)(UD)(LR)(UD)(LR)(UD)... trill based off of finger placement, and if you start with the proper hand, you can land on the UD jump at the end of the trill with ease; you just have to slide your hand over.

You're good at jumpstreaming, 240 is really damn fast and streams with jumps in them like those are really dense. There's some nasty 32nd bursts in there too.

tbh, I don't find the file hard at all, but JX said 12? and I agreed with him initially rating it a 12 -- if my Compaq wasn't sitting with a hard drive failure, I'd just go hop on there and tear that file a new asshole, haha. But for now, I need to wait a bit. Shouldn't be too long, hopefully.

I'm really not fazed by that particular pattern, even at that speed. You'd need to hit over 400 (16ths) for me to not hit a burst that short with that pattern. xD

I don't base the difficulty of harder files on how well the top tier players perform after the song's initial release

remove the 400 note intro (since it's around VD in difficulty and is easily AAA'able by anyone who even bothers to attempt an FMO/FGO) and suddenly the file's only 800 notes long...I could see if Jamais were around 1,300+ notes with the same consistent difficulty level as the latter 2/3rds of the file but it's gonna end up as an FMO simply due to how short it is (and 240bpm isn't that bad, NEED is 230bpm iirc and it's nowhere near even being in the top 15 hardest FMOs, plus the jumpstreamy sections in JD are extremely short-lived)...kinda like how World Tour and Blue Rose are only FMO/FGO due to how long they are

also in b4 lolo and maybe even reality but I honestly think those should be high FMO instead too so herp

Blue Rose legit has some really hard parts to AAA (especially that minijack pause section omfg)

The mega-length files also do have their difficulty spikes so it's also reasonable.

Lolo is a definite FMO considering how straightforward it is, there are only a few weird bursts and other than that it's easy haha. Basically if Lolo is FGO, Jamais Deux is an FGO xd

I shoulda just said: the way the song was composed... I think it is good enough for a good FGO stepfile instead of an FMO. I can't exactly picture this song as a FMO.

In short: if a song has a lot of solid chords (WWE), then obviously you're going to have a lot of Jumps/Hands. A good stepartist knows to always use jumps/hands for solid chords..

Tell me if you don't get this, I don't want to go into too much detail.

Okay, I will respond to this one.

Obviously I understand the justification of what AJ is saying. I can see that Sara getting these scores while living with me will get a BS call and that is a just reason.

However, AJ you have been one that keeps it coming. Between you living with Kayla and myself and Sara you have seen Sara's skill increase even when we were in Easton. Sara and Kayla both have excellent FFR skills and techniques. When it comes to Sara she is good at certain songs. Midnight Dragon for example.

I can NOT hit that purple section for my life. I have tried to cheat the trip section by doing a 1-23(jump) multiple times, never works. I tried to actually hit them as they are charted, never works. I got over 20 goods on that song last night ALONE. Sara came downstairs and played one time and got like 10 goods. It was ridiculous.

BUT, to clarify it all she is warming up right now. I have my webcam right next to me and she will play a song or two. 1 VC and 1 FMO. After this, I don't want to hear shit about it anymore. I'm not kidding. It really does get annoying, and this is only taking time out of our packing because we are moving to Philadelphia tomorrow. So I hope you like it and all.

false, someone who's able to AAA DP is definitely capable of AAA'ing excite bike, but this obviously isn't true when the songs are reversed

this is clearly an extreme example because the difficulties of both files are extremely far apart, but there you can still objectively determine that DP is more difficult than EB

if I lessen the gap to two songs like Horizon Remix and Vertex Beta, everyone can still pretty much agree that VB is the more difficult of the two files

my point is, even when it gets to the point where gaps between two songs are extremely miniscule, there should still be a way of objectively determining which song is more difficult than the other...and I understand that some people find bursts more difficult than fast jumpstream and others find jacks more difficult than runningmen, and vice versa, but I think songs should be compared to other songs containing similar patterns requiring similar skillsets and then raised or lowered to the appropriate difficulty by comparing the difficulty to one or two other songs in the game as a base

I'm in class right now and I probably worded this terribly because I'm trying to listen to the prof at the same time so I'll rewrite this later with what I'm thinking (it makes total sense to me and eliminates as much subjectivity as possible from rating difficulty levels)

This. Does it really matter? I mean, as long as you AAA the file or come close to it, who cares what difficulty it is?

Example: Some edit files on SM are rated 1 footers, even though they should be 17 due to them being dump files. Same thing, the difficulty number isn't as important IMO. As long as you do well on the file, it doesn't matter the difficulty.

Well, I wasn't trying to give my opinions on songs either; I'm trying to look at it from a perspective of the entire community and how well they score on these particular songs as well. To be honest, I think Lolo is a fitting rating FGO, but is easier than a few FMOs that I believe should stay an 11 as well. I also play other rhythm games outside of FFR -- usually in these games, speed is a heavy determining factor of difficulty. At the same time, you've got other FMOs that push a ridiculous amount of speed for shorter sections (looking at He's a Radical Rat and Of Course You Need...etc.), but are below Lolo. Overall technicality plays a factor too, but it's hard to generalize a difficulty of any sort because people have particular bias in patterns.

On the flip side, you could always do NPS + extreme sections for a particular technical pattern (jacks/runningmen/other named pattern here) and compare.

EDIT: just because people don't care doesn't mean we're forced to not care -- stop telling people how to think and go do something better with your time

It's only partially biased, actually. Remember that there can be an initial error in difficulty rating before players even get to the songs. Here's an example from ITG that you might be familar with, Zier:

When ITG came out for PS2, Mythology was only rated a 10. However, the ending of the chart pushed a technique that is mostly found in higher level charts, and that was very quick crossover patterns. Just about everyone was scoring higher on all of the 11s in comparison to Mythology. In this case, you have a sample of how players are doing, and they're all doing poorly.

On FFR, you had Einstein-Rosen Bridge initially rated as an 11, but the framers, jacks, and off-colored combination made it considerably harder to score on than any other 11, so it got bumped up. People seem satisfied with this rating, too.

On FFR, you could use the top players as a sample for figuring out when a song is a 10 vs. 11, or 11 vs. 12 by seeing how regulars compare in the song versus songs in that difficulty range (obviously observing weaknesses and strengths in these players).

Partial bias, but it can lead to more accuracy in difficulty ratings.

That only works as long as you're comparing songs to each other. In fact, I'd say that all the VC-FMO and FMO-FGO borderline files should be decided by how the community performs on them.

The problem is, a lot of people will compare a song against their *idea* of what a difficulty should be, and that tends to slightly increase when you get better. So you start with people raised on low FMOs like K8, Southern Cross, LW4, NWE, etc., and then when they get better they decide that those songs don't "feel" like low FMOs anymore and should be pushed down. Nevermind that those songs basically defined where the VC-FMO boundary was for a long time. When you develop enough speed, you don't think speedy patterns are hard anymore - just look at all the people saying Lolo is easy enough to be FMO (because they have the speed to hit it), when someone who's starting to PA FMOs will consider it totally out of their league.

My point is to say that difficulty should simply be based on this instead of players because we got different skill-sets but the game level stats is pretty much the best way to figure out where everyone stands. Now the question would be to know if Party 4u v2 is a 11 or if Lawn Wake I is a 10 or finding out which paramaters should apply to "Difficulty" even if I believe that everything should matter.

Let's say we had a song that's like excite bike super easy but instead of being 9 seconds it's 2 hours long and there's a background too
..would it still be a Difficulty 2?
