It's called "lateral thinking" coupled with a bit of cryptography/base conversion know-how. Sometimes the question isn't even clear. You just work with what you know and try to apply logic in new ways that may not be immediately apparent. You'll know the answer when you get it.

Rot13 is basically a subset of Caesar Cipher... there's also a Rot47 that uses a 94 character set but it's a bit more esoteric.

We all started stupid. It is by doing more and more of them that you begin to know "classics" and you can associate the corresponding cipher. Like, in this one, the fact that there are a lot of numbers inside the words gave it away for me.

It isn't random if you pay attention to what the cipher looks like.

The whole point of cryptography is to rationalize out patterns.

Like Emerald said, the numbers are almost a dead giveaway. Even if you had no idea how to do #2, there is a well known approach you could apply to the first sentence, and that sentence would help you get the rest -- the numbers too are a dead giveaway, especially when compared to the other sentences.

Actually most riddles are well constructed and actually require problem solving, but then you have some other riddles that are completely random and ambiguous, there are multiple answers that actually make sense and are logic, but they weren't thinking that way when they made the riddle so the answer is something else.

Sure cyphered scentences may give you clues on what was the algorithm used but there is really no way to find out the answer without try and fail, which is not what problem solving should be about.

tldr: For me, logic and intelligence matter more than experience and patternization / search

Well... I have talked with Rubix very few times in this forum, so I know very little about him. But he seems to be a nice person. I always wondered, though, why he is the way he is with games and stuff... He just needs to be the best in everything.
Actually, I have a very similar problem. I can't accept when someone is better than me at something I like to do... But in most cases, like this game, I have very little oportunity to improve and actually be the best(I'm really not allowed to play this game). Yes agreed. But with the way the thought process is going, no matter how smart he is, lying yourself out of a lie is hard. Especially with the epic quote that states " you can't bull**** and bull****ter. " He definitely has his hands full. The best he can do is troll. I don't troll. Whenever this explosion happens he will come back with some witty response. That's when I will release all that I know. No matter what it is. After that he can say whatever he feels because to be honest, once I release that, I have already won. To just get it off my chest is my goal. I've waited a long time for him to nudge this. It was my goal for a while here. I never thought I would be placed in D5 the guru division before. Now I am. Guns epic partner tourney. As well as mfdat phantoms tourney I originally was gonna be placed there. Fact is that becoming the best doesnt mean you have to be number one. It's a logical mental situation upon ones self. If you play FFR or any game for that matter and get to a point where you believe you have accomplished just about as much as you can. You are the best up til there. There's many different levels, and anyone can be the best. EVERYONE can be the best at something.

One more thing. Something I've kind of wanted to say before. Marcus is book smart. It's not that hard to become book smart. Pay attention in school. Learn things from reading. Listen attentively to things around you. News, papers, books, blah blah. I had a 3.95 GPA all throughout high school. Never studied a day in my life and still got A's on everything. Got a B in English cause well, English sucks. :D. But there's a fine line between Marcus being the smartest guy. One thing he does NOT have is streets smart. That being the philosophy of life itself not just history etc. One thing I have acquired is that skill. Which when you face an opponent who has smarts in different areas, you'll soon realize you're at a disadvantage. That's why there's nothing this guy can say to me that will "hurt." Simply because I've heard it all before.
