A few of my friends got threatend to get their credits taken away for this semester if they keep skipping PEP (study period).

The way PEP works is that for the past 2 years they took 10 mins from each class and put it into a period right before lunch to do homework, study, etc, but most students skip that class and 3 of my friends got told they would get their 4 credits taken away if they don't have 110 hours in that class, or so I've been told.

I did some research and I can't find anything telling me about how many hours we need in a class to get our credit.

I'd like to know if anyone knows anything about this, since I want to prove the principal wrong.

I believe each state has its own regulations on required classroom hours, and each school has its own different credit system. So I'm thinking this would mean that what you're looking for would be a combination of the two.

For Example, if 2500 hours of classroom instruction are required by the state, and the school system requires 25 credits to graduate, then it would make sense that each credit must be 100 hours.
But I really don't know for sure. :(

Well, here we need 30 credits to graduate. and apparently 110 hours in each class, but that would mean - since each class is 1:05 long that we would only need to go to school for around 110 days, and since there are usually around 180 school days that means we can skip 70 days... Which doesn't make sence to me.

The principal must love you EnR...

At my school you can miss as much school as you like, the teachers eventually give up caring, but as long as you get a passing grade (50% or upwards) you still graduate.
We Canadians got it slack. (assuming you live in USA)

We need 80 credits to graduate, as well as 2:30 hours of exercise per week minimum for two years (260 hours), 40 hours of work experience, and 30 hours or volunteering.

I've heard the same thing.

When I was in high school, we had something called MSIP implemented where 15 minutes taken from each class to create another period.
That made every class an hour long.
We were also told that skipping MSIP could result in loss of credits.

I don't see why, really.

If you are showing up and doing the work in your regular classes and you have a 50% or above -- you should earn the credit.

When I started my adult education classes, again, we were required to be in class for 110 hours.

Anyways, I'd like to know if a student who is doing great in their classes can really lose their credits for skipping 'study hall'.

---

If anyone is wondering, we have 4 classes a semester.
2 semesters a year for 4 years.
We need 30 credits to graduate.
This allows 2 spare credits which you can flunk I suppose, or get spares from.

We also need 40 hours of community service.

It's slack as hell here.

65 or higher to pass.
I forget how many credits are needed each year.
By the end of high school you need 80 hours of community service or you can't graduate.

Yeah, I slept and talked in school, had barely any credits, and had 0 hours of community service during mid junior year when I dropped out. Now I go to nightclass, showing up = passing, not sure how the credit system works, but as long as you show up you're good to go, that's it. Of course you have to do the work in school, if you show up and do nothing obviously they won't let you graduate and get your high school diploma.

Not showing up to a class and not receiving the credits for that class, makes sense. The certain amount of hours thing I'm pretty sure is real, though you have to pass on top of that obviously. Summer school works off that time thing here, which is why summer school is only a month, but each class is 3 hours, which totals up to near what a full school year would be.

I actually might take night classes, still thinking about it.

60% or more to pass here in Quebec. Losing credits for missing study hall? We don't have study hall type of thing here. The teachers provide the material for those who care about passing and the others are usually left behind unless provided with a valid reason for missing. To graduate though you need to do some dorky Economic projects and do some dumb things, but you can graduate without it and go to adult ed for a few weeks and get up to 8 credits just from a free journal program if you're missing any.

EDIT: We don't have "night classes". Our adult ed center is like a real school without the chances. You sign up for adult ed, you are commited to show up and gtfo ASAP (meaning graduate). There are plenty of people on waiting lists and they examine each student carefully and kick them out accordingly. The classes are 8:30am-11:30am, 12:20pm-3:20pm, 3:45pm-6:00pm every day of the week and each class has a specific time. You can basically take an entire highschool courseload and finish 1 entire highschool year within half the normal time (15 weeks to be exact).
