A Dark Place


They say that if you squint hard enough you can clear your mind
I prefer to dream in the ocean with my head in the clouds
They say there is a dark place where beasts wait for our kind
Ignorence is bliss, and love is heaven, and these are where I stay

Outside my window, tornadoes of bleak rain spiral down
I stay inside this glass, safe from weather's menace
Outside my room there is screaming all around
Though I am in here, where it is safe and sound

I know a dark place lies in each person's corner
I shone a light on mine, and it filled me with fear
I know I will never find a room that is warmer
As my tears keep my face burning

There are shots being fired outside my walls
I pretend they are the sounds of heaven, come to take me away
There are children being killed as I box myself in
They are nearing, though, I know I can't stay

A loud pounding on my door breaks my peaceful pain
I know I cannot hide much longer
A loud crash and a yell and I am out of my phase
Faceless men have come to end my days

A blade's edge sends me down to a dark place
This is it, consequence paid in blood
A blade's edge ends my people's race
What have we done to deserve such hate?
