Also, I dont know how to optimize for raw score. Like if Im getting sub20g its easy to understand how to improve. But is mashing or underhitting slightly better?

Mashing/Underhitting does not help with improving raw score.

In any given song (speaking in anti-PA terms), you want to avoid getting misses/averages as they reduce Raw Score the most, aside from Goods (25 raw score) and Boos (5 raw score).

sub20'ing any song is indeed improvable because you can shave off goods at that point without having to worry about any of the Anti-PA timings (unless from a sub20 you get a 5-0-1-1 which is way better in terms of Raw Score).

If you get an av and a boo to save yourself a miss, you'll be 10 pts higher than if you let the miss go. Pretty much any more and they're about the same. If you have to get an extra boo for an arrow timing or something idk to prevent yourself from getting a good, there's another area to save score (ex. my T&J score of like 8-1-0-12)

I would generally try to avoid mashing though and try to learn the patterns that give you trouble through lower rates and isolation. In a full run try to restrain yourself from mashing as much as possible but avoid dropping the misses since they really impact your score, hitting it a tad late for a good or even an average is better there.

Thanks everyone! I can either "mash hard" and FC but with 300 goods, 200 avg, 500boo,
Or get 200goods, 100 avg, 10 miss, 300 boo by mashing sorta. So I guess I have to replay my 80+s and lower my FC% lol

Id avoid mashing altogether, it does not help you at all in the longrun. Try to hit the patterns as best as you can and if you have to, miss some notes instead of mashing and keeping the fc. Misses arent that bad in terms of raw, sure you want to get as little as possible, but not mashing is actually better. I mean look at my rato score. 82 misses, 2 avs and 2 boos, better than mashing an fc with 800+ boos aha

EDIT: Id rather take a better rank now and lose fcs than keep a mashed fc or mashed score altogether, since i mean they dont even matter anymore anyways. :P
