Then in one day I profited 340, hands held, bluffs worked, image building went how I wanted it to. I had bought in only for 20. Everything went right. Then the next day I made a modest 180. This person I'm talking about is one of like 4 others but he's a complete fool at the table and it's always a shame to see him win. |

Okay, I signed up, but I don't have any cash on there right now. I use Full Tilt Poker instead because I just enjoy that more. But I can put money on it if I need to.

Jesus dude. Well, that's the beauty of tourneys I guess. Nicely done.
One good run can make you a lot of money, whereas you just rolled the equivalent of me grinding for several months XD With that said I've had zero luck in tourneys thus far. I've ran fairly deep a couple of times, but every time it comes down to an all in situation when I'm pretty close to big money, and I get it in good and get sucked out on. Urg D:

Poker is one of those games I am embarrassed to admit I don't know how to play.

Re: FFR poker league -ongoing-
Well, the other embarrassing thing is that I've tried to pick it up before, but I've never fully learned all the rules, and so I get pissed off -- which leads to quitting. There are a ton of rules, and I've never found a site that explains them in the way that I like (it's always a disorganized ****mash), and when I try to get people to explain them to me, it's always a bunch of "Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot to mention blahblahblah" every other sentence.
All I want is a freaking model of the game in a no-bullshit format so I can start slapping EV/probability/variance/utility metrics to that shit and start pushing out some gains. I want to know how long the game lasts, how the game changes over time, how many people are required at min/max, how many are in a typical game, how blinds work, how card distribution changes over time, how the flop works, who "owns" which cards, how turns work, blahblahblahblah. Takes a minute to learn, and a lifetime to master. . .
I'm sure if you picked up any random book about hold'em it wouldn't take long for you to grasp it and commence domination... And if you'd like an eay learning forum to apply these new skills, there are games up in the op for this for week one of the feb leaderboard.

But it sounds like none of that would be useful to you right now because you need more of the basics. Do you have facebook? If you added me we could mess around on a poker utility there and at least it has a proper chat interface so I could explain everything along the way.

Losing in the short term is just the statistics of getting unlucky. I actually like it nowadays when some idiot gets it in with like 16% against me and sucks out. It leads them to a false delusion of having the one up on me and I'll suck them dry if they don't leave the table.

Seriously, if people are going to not remember the tournament, why even register? Half of the players were sitting out at one point.
