The best course of action here is to not change any of the songs at all.
Extending the round by one day affects everyone, because those who had something done for the removed songs will lose that day of effort, while those who were unaffected by the song change get an extra day to work on their file.
Tracking two separate deadlines for files is senseless, as well. Additionally: given the WIP for Bulldozer being only 2 minutes out of the full song and Palms Read only being 1:24 out of the full song, are these works in progress truly going to be reflective of what we would expect for the final product?
If My Love is a Bulldozer has to go, then Palms Read should go too.
It's had a chart on the DF engine for at least four and a half years, and oddly enough -- the person who gave the higher quality song cut (T-Force) also posted in the corresponding release thread on the Dragons Fury forums about how it was attributed to the wrong album all the way back in 2010. If the whole situation about people seeing a work in progress is going to be a situation, then surely a song that has been on a custom engine for as long as it has should be an issue as well.
All of the corresponding arguments are applicable for both files:
- how many people have seen the file (seen the file recently)?
- is the amount of the song charted relevant to the competition?
- is it necessary to remove either song with both songs having an unofficial existence?
Comparing a chart that has been out for 4.5 years to a chart in progress makes absolutely no sense in any way.
It would be one thing to have released it on Stepmania, or even your DF engine, or the TF engine already. If someone else sent in a copy of any song that we have permission for that I have on the TF engine, I wouldn't mind as much as if I was finishing it and it was used in a contest which overrides my one option to submit it.
Scin had at least 3 years to send in Palms Read if he wanted to. He didn't, that feels more than fair. Trouncing on someone who's already working on it as part of a contest with the option to bypass a regular batch ahead of them? That's not even comparable or fair. Life's not fair, the internet normally isn't, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't try.
I'd rather have a song that doesn't trounce anyone to compete with. I won't win, but I wanna try my hand against some of the best, which I've gotten to do. I'm pleased no matter the results.
It's up to the hosts. I won't rage in thread about what choice they make. I just thought this should be pointed out. If they change it, I'm very much for that, if not I do understand as long as it's not for the reasoning Aj posted because that's just some crap.

the point is that people can easily look at the wip for bulldozer/play palms read and get ideas on how to step it
i'm not fond of working on a file that is going to be replaced, and i'm especially not going to be happy being that the (normal) end round time is currently workable for me, but an extended round end time would essentially be useless to me.
remember how caliber had already stepped group c's song and the songs didn't change
..
also not relevant in a situation where you can pick your own songs; Caliber was simply moved to a different group where all songs were forced on other people
in this case, there's no specific person affected in a group, just an entire group due to an outside party.

Then group c's song should have been changed as well. No reason folks in group c couldn't get ideas from the sm chart.

This, for me too.
I need a verdict (or at least, confirmation that one is coming soon) because tonight is really my main time to work on files. If I wind up having to replace/redo things I do tonight, I will honestly probably not be able to complete the final round.
So, a final verdict sooner rather than later would be appreciated.
