This isn't even about starting a league or anything. Competitive video gaming is a joke. When your rules and regulations basically say "WE ARE SOLELY LIMITING OURSELVES TO THIS, THIS, AND THIS. AND THAT'S FINAL!", you're basically taking a small percent of the game to a tournament and leaving the rest at home. Something like 99% of the reason the game exists is completely left outside of tournaments.

Take football. I don't even like football, but let's just go for it. Football is insane. You could watch for years and still never understand every rule they have, every strategy people use, etc. Just last week I found out that it's a touchdown if the ball passes over the endzone pylon in-bounds despite the player's boundaries. There are so many things you can do in football that you're constantly keeping the other team on their toes. And the other team is constantly doing things to counter the infinite possibilities the first team has to offer.

That's the thing. Football is still growing. New plays are invented. Rules change. The entire game is entirely dynamic. You remove dynamics in your pathetic little tournaments. Your tournaments test the skill of that 1% of the game. It's like a football match where the winner is the quarterback who can throw the best. Nevermind the defense, the running plays, the kicking teams, anything else. It's just based on whether a quarterback can throw well or not.

Did you ever stop to think that removing so-called "luck" from the game basically removed all aspects of a real Super Smash Bros. match? Ever think that being able to play on Poke Floats is harboring true skill as you actually have to pay attention to more than one thing?

Seriously. Smash Brothers is not a fighting game. Stop treating it like one. It's a party game. Stages that move exist to keep you on your toes. Items that have varying effects exist to keep you watching your back. That's what makes the game fun.

Have fun with your pissing contest, though. Make sure you do it indoors in a vacuum so nobody can claim that the wind carried it farther than someone else's. That would be leaving things up to "luck"!

I'm sincerely impressed with the way to wii-mote controls look.

I'm very excited to try them.

And you find this funny... Why?

I was under the distinct impression that some part of the player's body had to be in the endzone. It used to be two feet in-bounds if he were on his way out. Then a knee. Now it's just the space above the endzone with the ball in-hand.

According to the announcers, it was a recent rule change.

Do you just enjoy trying to belittle me?

So we haven't decided to stop arguing over pointless sh!t yet? Some of us like MLG style playing, some of us like non-MLG style playing, why can't either side accept the other's play style? As long as you don't have to play someone who disagrees with your play style, why the hell should it matter?

              Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Rawr if you want to play tournaments for a real fighting game, try SF3S or T5. Smash is a party game end of story. I love how people's desire to be #1 drives them to take a simple game and make it as complex as it could be just to determine skill. It's pathetic really. Here are some examples:

Tekken 5: Yes. It's combo system and complexity allows for there to be good competition amongst players.

SSBM: No. It is a party game intended to be fun; not stripped down to bare mininimums to settle a pissing contest.

GGXX #Reload: Yes. With it's variety of technical moves used to combo players and plan strategies, it is a tournament game.

Also, I have one thing that will end your argument forever Rawr. If you are so inclined on the sport of competitive gaming then you will realize that SSBM has never been played at a Super Battle Opera. Since you'll probably google it I'll let you know what it is. SBO is the premiere fighting games tournament held in Japan. If you can win at SBO, then victories at other competitions such as EVO will be familiar to you. Only reason EVO added SSBM this year was due to fans. Had no one asked, SSBM would NEVER be added. Which brings me to my point: if SSBM was so technical and competitive then it would be held at the #1 fighting game tournament in the country it was made correct?

              Thought so.

Thank you for giving your opinion. "SSBM was so technical and competitive then it would be held at the #1 fighting game tournament in the country it was made correct?" Dur, because its not as popular in Japan. Also USA>Japan at SSBM

Evo was part of the MLG SSBM circuit, so I guess they didn't have to ask.

SSBM also has combo's and complexity. It also has technical moves and strategies.

It is apparant that you have never played competitive smash in your life, so please do not comment upon which you do not know. Example: I know absolutely nothing about competitive tekken or GG or MVC2, etc. So im not going to bash them.

If I'm correct, USA > Japan at SSBM from the time SephirothKen started going to tournaments, since pretty much every pro player in Japan at the time played space animals. Marth comes into the picture, and "WTF chaingrab?!" happens.

                    Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Glad to see we have some competitive smashers in here ;D Its amazing how ignorant people come and talk about something they don't have any knowledge of. No video games were DESIGNED TO BE PRO PLAYED. Do you think Starcraft was designed to give Koreans the chance to make over a $100,000 a year? No, I don't think so. Do you think super smash brothers brawl was designed to give people the chance to win money off of it? Doubt it. Will it? Probably. Smash brothers is now used for competitive gaming. Get over it.

I think a general agreement of "Don't talk about what you don't know," (in relation to this thread, anyway) has been reached.

And it is indeed good to see (even though a small amount) competitive smashers in here.
