L cancel is an animation glitch that will help your game. If you do an A attack in the air and press L or R right as you land(depends on character for timing) then it will cancel the landing animation and allow to you to jump or attack immediately. If you dont L-cancel, it will most likely leave you at a huge disadvantage(depends on your character) compared to someone who can L-cancel fluently. A wave dash allows you to slide back and forth allowing you to play really good mind games on an opponent or dodge an attack or even slide off the edge to grab it to edge guard. For the people who have something against no items. Think of this. You are skillfully beating a player. You have 75% he has 100%. You both have 1 life left and winner goes home with 100k. A heart drops right next to him do to luck. That opponent who is NOT better than you is able to kill you do to the heart and goes home with a 100k. Sound right to you? Not at all. If you want to play for fun and play with items thats great. FFA's with items is a blast. Thats why MLG figured out the most skillful rules that leave out as much luck as possible. If you dont like it, don't play mlg and don't use the rules. Its as easy as that.

Thank you, this is what we've been trying to tell you the whole time. We don't like wave dashing, so we don't play by it. We prefer to have the randomness of items because it adds a certain level of excitement in the game for us. When that little bit of food drops down, we all rush to fight for it, when that hammer falls, we all rush to fight for it, when there is any item worth getting, we all rush and fight for it. The entire battle for us is not to constantly dodge and wait for our opponents to slip up one tiny bit because they missed a key stroke on their wavedash. However, that's not to say we suck because we have to rely on items -- using our playing style effectively, we're good players too. Just because we don't play in the MLG doesn't mean we suck, we just don't like their rules like how the MLG hates ours.

first that's a glitch something that was not intended to be on the game, i've won over some wavedashers, and people with that kind of tricks, and i'm not a supreme pro or anything just someone who finished the game at a 100%(just the average smash player) , and as you said before, someone that do all that stuff (wavedashing and landing) is a pro, but as squeek and many others have already said before, that's not true. this game is also about strategy, and those if you can't win without doing this tricks then you never were a real pro, but well since the physics are changed in brawl we can asume that most of this tricks are out, so we'll see what you (and other dashers) are gonna do then.

and also that's just a pathetic excuse to say that items are just for luck. as you may know hearts fall down really slowly and also they only appear on containers... therefore if i were you i would try to kick the oponent away from the heart before it touch the ground or i'll try to destroy as many containers appear...is a matter of strategy to overcome the luck factor. and even if your enemy does grab it, you still can use the typical strategy of evade until an item can help you, and since you use these tricks you should be able to do it (sarcasm), or you can try and use mine kill him as fast as i can without letting him hit me (wich you should use without items anyway)

if that's the way MLG players play in this or in another games, then i rather be a average gamer that plays for the fun of a battle, without caring if i win or lose.

First off L cancelling is not a glitch in the game it's actually vital for competitve game play. When you land after an attack or being attacked without L cancelling your recovery time is going to be so slow that evading a pillar technique from my falco would more than likely be impossible. L cancelling prevents your opponent from taking advantage of your recovering by immense amounts. The skill difference between pro and normal in this game is greater than any game i know. I'm not going to put it as retarded as l2 but he is right when saying that there is no way a player who doesn't play tourny rules and isn't accustomed to tourny players and that way of smashing is going to win against someone who does.

is L cancelling in the american booklet of the game because in the spanish one is not, and every moves are in the booklet, like dodging and shielding (and some secret tips on the trophies)

and now you are gonna tell me that's not a glitch?

L cancelling also refers to when you get knocked down and press L right when you hit the ground.

                  Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Actually Korny that's called teching when you L-cancel after being knocked to the ground. Technically L-cancelling, SHFFLing, wavedashing, waveshine, etc. are all glitches because they require a knowledge of what moves to do in order to perform another. L-cancelling a move to get a faster respond time (i.e. Link's Down + A) is a glitch because it is not neccesary to gameplay.

Also, once I get my Wii in the next few weeks, I'll be giving out my friend code lso I can play everyone with Snake. Also Squeek, will I be playing UT3 with you soon?

I don't know. If it runs like the demo, I may have to spend a lot more time tweaking and/or upgrading. The demo runs with massive pixellation. It's hardly playable.

                    We shall see.

I'm definitely up for FFR Vets in Brawl matches.

But that's why I'm saying that we should be able to play with both wavedashing and items! Nowhere in this argument have I said, "DON'T WAVEDASH, PLAY BY MY RULES, ITEMS ONLY, NON-FINAL DESTINATION." That would just be dropping to the level of MLG -- I don't intend to do so.

                          Anyway.

Sonic is going to need theme music and a stage.

                          Hmm...

                          Green Hill Zone, anyone?

Having that song performed by an orchestra... man that would be awesome.

Since your ideas are so superior to the multi million dollar organization of MLG, why don't you just start up your own pro league and use your rules? Your ideas are so great it will bring in even MORE money than MLG.

                              Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl

                              Wahahahaha.

Nobody takes "Major League Gaming" seriously. Holy crap. You seriously believe that people care?

They just get money to distribute to their participants and to pay for their events by their sponsors. The sponsors only pay because they get to plaster their advertisements all over the place at these events.

This isn't even about starting a league or anything. Competitive video gaming is a joke. When your rules and regulations basically say "WE ARE SOLELY LIMITING OURSELVES TO THIS, THIS, AND THIS. AND THAT'S FINAL!", you're basically taking a small percent of the game to a tournament and leaving the rest at home. Something like 99% of the reason the game exists is completely left outside of tournaments.

Take football. I don't even like football, but let's just go for it. Football is insane. You could watch for years and still never understand every rule they have, every strategy people use, etc. Just last week I found out that it's a touchdown if the ball passes over the endzone pylon in-bounds despite the player's boundaries. There are so many things you can do in football that you're constantly keeping the other team on their toes. And the other team is constantly doing things to counter the infinite possibilities the first team has to offer.

That's the thing. Football is still growing. New plays are invented. Rules change. The entire game is entirely dynamic. You remove dynamics in your pathetic little tournaments. Your tournaments test the skill of that 1% of the game. It's like a football match where the winner is the quarterback who can throw the best. Nevermind the defense, the running plays, the kicking teams, anything else. It's just based on whether a quarterback can throw well or not.

Did you ever stop to think that removing so-called "luck" from the game basically removed all aspects of a real Super Smash Bros. match? Ever think that being able to play on Poke Floats is harboring true skill as you actually have to pay attention to more than one thing?

Seriously. Smash Brothers is not a fighting game. Stop treating it like one. It's a party game. Stages that move exist to keep you on your toes. Items that have varying effects exist to keep you watching your back. That's what makes the game fun.

Have fun with your pissing contest, though. Make sure you do it indoors in a vacuum so nobody can claim that the wind carried it farther than someone else's. That would be leaving things up to "luck"!

Site updated like a minute ago from this post.

Meowth is now in SSBB and comes out of a pokeball item.

Meowth throws his coins with force using Payday attack.

edit: and more importantly, update on how to play with the Wii remote.
