I can't say from experience this is always the case

But the support is (at least in my experience being mostly season 2) pretty limited.

I will say however season 3 support feels much more important than they ever where and Nami is a fucking beast.

You can zone perfectly and protect your AD well and they can still have 20 CS at ten minutes and you just... sigh...
