Pretty much this, confidence is a big factor for Stepmania, just don't worry about other peoples' scores compared to yours, trust me, I used to be like that and it didn't make Stepmania fun for me back then, and it never will. Just have fun with the game and push your own limits.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, it's just that some scores are really overwhelming and I just really want to be a skilled as everyone else

Well stepmania is one of those games that you have to invest a lot of time in it to get good, it doesn't just happen over night, some people are naturals at the game when they start it but most people start at the bottom and work their way to the top.

Take me for instance, I started playing roughly 5 years ago starting with FFR and only starting really getting into stepmania about a year and a half ago I think.

I never thought I'd get to the point I'm at but I'm striving for higher goals.
Just pace yourself and don't worry about the competitiveness if there really is any left, just play for your own enjoyment and if you can be satisfied by your own scores then that's good.

Course it doesn't hurt to dream of being like as fast as Stian or as accurate as oC one day haha.

Haha I feel the same way. :< I'm still making my way through A'ing and AA'ing novice songs. Ah well, it's all part of the journey! I expect to playing this for a long time.

Can't even AA o'er the flood on 1.1 anymore and barely get an AA on 1.0... the degen is real. I capped at AA'ing 1.2 and took a hiatus that I now regret.
