Try playing Goldeneye in this day and time. Controls are awkward and clunky as hell and probably not how you remember it at all. The original Smash Bros is very limited in movement, you'd also be disappointed in that. SM64 on the other hand still plays smooth regardless of how old it is.

edit: Don't get me wrong, I ****ing loved all of these games back in the day, but I'm pretty sure you guys are looking at them through rose-tinted glasses
edit2: If you're feeling nostalgic, seriously don't play goldeneye. You'll only ruin your good memories, something I learned the hard way
Some games I still play cause they just play very smoothly and are still really fun (like sm64 or donkey kong country games) but there are games that should just live on being awesome in your memory. :')

Agreed. Though SSB still feels the same to me. Never played the others to hardcore, so adapting to the original controls is fairly a 10 minute practice.

Maybe if someone didn't play shooters at all would find goldeneye to be fun?

SM64 really amazes me in terms of how high the skill cap is (all the crazy tricks you can try to do) and how smooth the controls are. The fact that after all this time people have found, like, two significant physics glitches is pretty shocking. And yeah, compared to Goldeneye, the graphics have withstood the test of time far better - probably because of the game's cartoonish as opposed to realistic style.

But yeah, dat skill cap. That's one way to ensure speedrunning will stay interesting. (Another way is to be insanely glitchy *cough OoT cough*)

Isn't the theory TAS like 1:42? Sorry I don't really follow SM64.

Yea the skill cap of this game is really insane. So even though 1:42 is possible, we might never see it real time. Just like Super Metroid's game time's theoretical limit is :28, the world will never see better than a :29, if we're even that lucky.

Edit: Another interesting thing is when speedruns are taken so far to the level that milliseconds make a difference and one subtle mistake ruins your run. Mainly speaking about Super Mario World Any%. Really fun to watch the best of the best go at that one.
