I personally believe that the hurt people feel needs to be negated themselves, we can't move forward as a loving race of human beings if we're constantly walking on eggshells when we mean no harm. Just as I wouldn't call someone a slut for no good reason, or really at all at this point in my life, it's because I feel I should treat others the way I'd like to be treated. I'm not going to go after anyone, but I also don't feel the need to keep my mouth shut because my opinions may hurt someone's feelings.

It's up to them to use their discernment when they hear a word. It's not my fault if society deems a word as harmful or hurtful, but I'm adding to the problem if I make it taboo. I will, however, take responsibility if needed, aka when one's feelings are hurt. And probably tell them that I really don't mean any harm, although I think it's a good idea to begin healing that hurt inside, the ROOT cause, so the next time it comes around, you can rise above it, rather than be made a victim (it's just a word, afterall; it holds no real substance).

Sure, it may be in their programming, but that's really not my problem. It's their cross to bear.

Which means I'm going to listen to my '*****' music and if any '*****s' are offended then they can just deal with it, lol. I fear NO WORDS. But I also think it's a good idea to be kindhearted. So really, it's all just in the eye of the beholder. All the power to you if you speak like a lady or a gentleman, but don't be deluded by the fears of others in your quest for speaking freely, that is all

There's nothing stopping you from voicing what you want to say. Just remember that it's not just what you say, it's how you say it. There is no need to keep your mouth shut if you have something to say, it just comes down to choosing the right words to get the same point across but in a light you know your audience will be ok with. Especially in the English language, for every word there is probably a million others that mean the same thing but with a slightly different connotation so there should be no excuse for not being able to craft together a sentence with the connotations you would like to imply to your audience.

The point is not getting offended, not having to tailor what you say to your audience, which invariably is going to be something you can't always control, or even KNOW anything about them. You can say things in a lot of different ways, sure, but your overall point, no matter how blunt, can still fracture someone's psyche that hasn't coped with their feelings towards those ideas.

You can say there's no excuse for not using a better word, but who is to really say which is OK and which is not, it's a tossup. It's better if everyone has a mutual understanding, which is what comes with good communication, and in my eyes good communication is no holds barred.

                                Story time

SO back when I was like 5, or maybe I was 6, 7, or possibly last year I dont fucking really know when this shit happened but I was young okay.
Anyway, a long ass time ago, I was in this summer-camp-like place called "the boys and girls club". And though it didn't really dawn on me at the time I might as well have been the only white kid there. And on top of that I had pretty much only really been around white people prior to that. So in the attempt to not stick out like a Chihuahua's awkward erection that it occasionally gets, I started using all the slang the other kids did. "tight" "for shizzle" and by god this was so long ago "the bomb". This worked for a while until one day I saw a group of kids calling each other "*****s" it was actually the regular word but I dont feel like getting banned. Now I thought that in the context that they were using said word, it probably meant something like "homie" or "brochacho". And while I was right I was also missing about 500 years of history and a mirror. But nonetheless I went up to the first little shit I could find to test out this new found slangology and guess what? The kid was black and acted hella awkward when I busted out that greeting "sup *****". And instead of replying in kind another black kid who had overheard me came over and socked me in the face. So there I was sitting in the office of the "club" really confused and in pain wondering why I'm the one fucking in trouble and my mom comes in furious and takes me home.

I told her what happened and she thought it was hella funny I didn't really understand so she ended up explaining pretty much everything.

I think I'm still banned from that boys and girls club too because they did say "forever".
