Length doesn't have any effect at all unless the song is very short (say, under 600ish notes) or very long (say, over 2500ish). So I'd be wary of any equation that says there is a significant difference between a 1:30 file and a 2:30 file when they are both technical VCs with the same pattern difficulty and speed.
Best AAA: Policy In The Sky [Oni] (81)
Best SDG: PANTS (86)
Best FC: Future Invasion (93)
There's only one issue with this. Pattern difficulty is a highly subjective issue - some people are better at one thing and others are better at something else. No matter what equation you come up with, there's really no way to account for this. Pattern density isn't an effective equation either because some songs will spike to extremely high densities for short periods and it just makes mathematical equations that much harder to derive.
Agreed. Although I suppose a certain general basis of a difficulty for a pattern could be reached, there really isn't a true way to give it a 100% equal evaluation in comparison to another file. Considering every person can hit different patterns better or worse, this is quite a debatable variable.
As for pattern density, I suppose a separate equation could be created consisting of about the same variables for just the specific note density spikes within a song, and then these could be averaged out respectively with the difficulty for the majority note density pattern. Although doing something like this would be fairly ridiculous for such a large number of songs.
Would be pretty difficult to create a mathematical equation that could universally represent all of the songs for the game. There would be just way too much variability. I suppose though that multiple outputs could be derived for a song within an equation (considering that pattern difficulty is relative to a person, and possible values could be given to add/detract from a general difficulty depending on a person being bad, intermediate, or good at the following pattern(s). Keeping in mind though that this only isolates a single pattern, and that if a variety of patterns are within a certain song, that even MORE hectic mathematical work and variability would be needed to be taken into consideration. Also there would need to be additional regard to things such as backgrounds, moving objects, off-sync areas, and whatever else which again may be based on variability as people can deal with these things better / worse than others.
If an equation were able to satisfy all of these needs somehow, it would most likely be way too cumbersome to want to actually use to calculate out things for songs...especially considering we have so many stages that would need to be calculated this way.
There's no way that we could calculate it and use it for every single song; however, it may help in sorting out some of the 75-77 issues and other ambiguous files. Common sense and logic are the way to go in most cases.
Of course, it's probably not worth it for something so minor.
that's going to be a problem no matter how many difficulty rankings there are. there are high 77s and low 77s just as there are high fmos and low fmos.
Although this is still the case, now that ffr has hundreds and hundreds of songs, and more harder ones, a difficulty scale of 1-100 is more accurate (of course it isn't perfect.)
Something like difficulty will never be represented by a single equation, but rather by a model - perhaps even a genetic algorithm or neural network that will be essentially uninspectable but get results.
Some jacks and 24ths in it are kinda hard, yet it's only 134 bpm.
I'd leave it an 8. Infiltration on the other hand, you can move down to a 9 for all I care, it's around Fei Longer difficulty. I think Nebula (She) is harder. There is NOTHING hard about this file, it has mini jacks and a few short easy jacks, that's it. The jumpstream is easier than some Challenging songs jumpstream, and it's not THAT fast. I'd give it 69-70. I can't believe it's put where it is right now.
It's getting better all the time
I used to get mad at my school (No, I can't complain)

Now difficulty 13 = For Stepmen Only (FSO), and becomes an official difficulty.
Infiltration is mid 10, nowhere near 9 imo.
WTF does that mean? Stepmen? wut?
