I'm sure most people in this thread would be ok with less then what they described. It's natural to want things you can't have though.
I don't feel as though this holds true for me, I don't compromise well. If the person is anything less than what I want, then I don't really want them as much more than a friend.
I'm too picky. Not that that's a bad thing, I just know what I want, and know I can get it.
;; It's just too feminine to have long hair on a manly man and it usually ends up just looking like **** because they most often don't take care of their hair and it looks all gnarly and stuff. Really gross.
There are exceptions too but for the most part if guys have long hair it ends up being really gross.
I think part of it is that nobody teaches guys how to take care of their hair so they don't understand that for your hair to look good you have to treat it nicely, because if you have short hair usually none of that actually matters because it gets cut off before it can get all gross and damaged. OR they just don't care and it contributes to them looking like a lazy slob. Like for example scrubbing your head with a towel is a big no-no... and usually girls know this but then guys don't and it makes me sad when they have sloppy hair habits and long hair.
As lame as it may sound, it's personality. But in terms of physical aspects, it's the hips, no doubt. A combination of a curvy waist, nice legs, and a cute butt is basically what makes or breaks it.

You and I have actually talked about this subject before (here or on FFYa, I don't remember), so I know where you're coming from and you're right for the most part. I was just ribbin' ya.
My bf has long hair. I wish he'd take better care of it... or himself in general. He showers like every other day or every 3 days. He doesn't smell bad at all... just his hair does and it looks gross by the time he goes to take a shower.
Me and his mom have been trying to convince him to cut it but he won't hear any of it. Probably cause his hair looked ****ing hilarious short... saw some pics of him when he was 13-14 with short hair.. rofl. He likes to blow dry and straighten it after he showers so I guess it makes sense that he wouldn't want to do that every single day. He also doesn't like air-drying it, which I don't understand. I do it all the time and my hair turns out fine.. unless there's a ****load of humidity in the air that day.
