Actually, life is like a warehouse of chocolate boxes.

You never know what you're going to get, but nobody's forcing you to eat chocolate you don't like. If you're not a fan, move onto another box and try again.

I think it's stupid to settle for a box of chocolates you don't even like. There's nothing wrong with striking out in search of something better -- but at some point, I do think it's equally stupid to seek better chocolate for any other reason than for your own pleasure. It's not like anyone else is eating it.

Anyway I understand what you're saying, that so many people work all the time so they can have nice cars, a nice house, yet have no time to enjoy those things. However on the other hand I've witnessed my girlfriend recently become basically homeless because her dad ran out a while ago and her mom hasn't gotten a job. You have to do what you need to do to make ends meet, there's a healthy balance. You don't need to work so hard that you'll be a millionaire with no free time but you still need to provide a home and food.

Also I think if someone has overwhelm themselves with work to get the things they want but end up having no time to enjoy them, should seriously consider a career change or something.

There's a difference between trying too hard and having a case of sour grapes.

It's generally cognitive dissonance -- people WANT to be rich and successful but for whatever reason they can't achieve those things so they resolve the dissonance by convincing themselves that they don't care about being rich and successful anyway and that it isn't important.

Arguably, there is some truth to it, but again, it IS a balance. You need to have enough money and success to be able to do what you want with your life and have financial security. But you don't need to make the accumulation of wealth and material goods your sole purpose.

I had so many problems in my life when I was poor. Life's been amazing ever since I've landed my current job. I would have done a great disservice to myself had I just said "I'm trying too hard -- I should just settle for this and be happy" and miss out on the fruits of ambition.

If you keep deleting posts that demean blatantly idiotic posts, such as the one of OPs, than the information that's posted is going to stay at below-average quality. You know, the quality of threads that exemplifies CC and alienates those that might have something -actually- interesting and/or informative to say.

At least there are some users that are willing to [waste] dedicate their time and effort into writing posts (even if it's because their egos can be self-enriched and that's their primary reason for posting).
