                                The best parties I've ever been to have been free ones or really cheap ones that are hosted in a house where they might ask for $5 to help cover for all the alcohol that was purchased.

                                $20+ cover charge is ridiculous.

                                                I move for the OP to egg the place on November 1st out of spite (25 bucks cover and still no wine?!) and because they won't expect it on the day AFTER Halloween.

                                                Also, support Litodude's observation that Taco Bell is good because you can get a meal with relative pocket change...provided you're smart about it. (My brother and I once paid for a meal at Taco Bell using nothing but the contents of a change jar because I thought I had a 20 in my wallet when I didn't. He was mad.)
