MooMoo, since it's required, you might as well enjoy Chemistry. (My Chem teacher was also the school's Quiz Bowl coach...extremely awesome. Mom even knew him because she read a research paper that had his name on it.)

My brother wants to study Aerospace Engineering in college and he's a rising Junior in high school. Would you recommend any specific classes he could take? You could just name any and our school probably offers it.

Chemistry, and Physics are a must. He's gotta get A's too. Nothing less.

Calculus. AB, or BC (1 or 2, I or II, whatever it is you have at your school). I only got to Calculus AB, but if he can take BC, urge him to. If your school offers any engineering classes as an elective, he should sign up, or any engineering related after school activities for that matter. The more he's exposed to, the better.

There's not really a whole lot you can do in high school aside from those four classes. Aerospace Engineering majors are extremely selective and let in very few people, so I'd also recommend that he applies to a school with that major EARLY. Perhaps it's different in Virginia, but I believe most universities have an early action program. Tell him to do it.

Overall, I hope he has a good GPA. Getting A's in math and science is all well and good, but he needs to have A's in everything else too. Most of the kids applying to an aero major are easily 4.0+ students, so competition is tough.

Has he taken SATs yet? If and when he does, I wouldn't settle for anything less than an 1800.

On the note of GPA, I had a 2.4ish something stupid bad coming out of high school. Did a community college for a year and aced out just to show that I'm not retarded and got accepted to my first/only choice school. Not saying to breeze off in HS, just don't feel like it's a be-all end-all deal breaker if you don't do fantastic.

Thanks for that advice. Yeah, he's a REALLY good student. A lot better than me actually. He's totally a straight A student. Right now he's in Geometry, regarding math, so I guess if he's going to take those Calculus classes he needs to go to summer school.

Other than that, I think he's good to go. :]

And no he hasn't taken the SAT yet, not until spring of his Junior year but if he takes summer school he could probably take the SAT this fall. We'll see.

From what it sounds like though, your brother is doing well, so let's hope he continues.

If he's a Junior taking Geometry...yeah, he's at least a year behind. I had Geometry in 9th grade, Alg2/Trig in 10th, and Calc AB in 11th. Most people take Geometry in 10th I believe, but the situation can be rectified.

I don't recommend taking a calculus class over the summer...just too much to learn in a short time, but doing Alg2/Trig is probably doable. Then if he can take Calc AB in his senior year, he should be pretty well set.

I will be going to college, so I have no idea what I'm going to take. I'll be on a chemical/biomedical engineering track, so I assume I'll be doing a lot of core sciences for my first year or two.

Also, I really hope I get credit for the math I've done. Having to retake Calc series + Lin Alg + DiffEq would really really really suck. And other random science, too, I guess. Basically, I'm hoping to go straight to Organic chem + biochem and other shiz.

I also want to do some programming classes, econ, some languages...yeah, I'm really not sure yet. There are too many options.

I was kinda apprehensive about signing up for German, but I heavily considered it. I just think Spanish will benefit me more in my lifetime than German will.
Then again, I might learn German on my own time, 'cause it's always good to know multiple languages.

We have 7 classes too. Is that really a bad thing? We do block scheduling so it's plenty of time for each class. Mondays we have all 7 classes which last about 40 minutes each (60 minutes for 5th block) and then we have 4 classes Tues-Fri that last 90 minutes plus an "extended study" period which lasts about 40 minutes.

Surprisingly enough... my schools (yes, I go to two) have not been affected by the economy. All the teachers are really cool I guess and maybe our county is just blessed to have a great school system.

Oh, and I just noticed you live in Florida. Well, that makes sense. Florida has a TERRIBLE public school system pretty much anywhere in the state. Yeah, I used to live there. My brothers were both failed when they were in elementary when we lived there and ever since we came to Virginia in 2003, they've gotten the help they needed and have really improved. Teachers in Florida, hell, the entire school system just didn't give a damn about helping them or other kids. Which explains why this one girl I knew was in 2nd grade when she was supposed to be in 5th...

pretty much the majority of the kids here dont give a damn....your better off with anything above standard =\

At my high school, we HAD to take pre-calc before they'd let us take any AP Calc. I took Precalc over the summer at the community college to fast-track it. Banged out Calc BC in Jr year and left my senior year open for a whole lot of screwing around.

So we just signed up for our Capstone Project (Required senior-level project). We have to select 3 choices and then are assigned one of those 3.

Long story short I might get to build a supersonic wind tunnel and that's awesome.
