            1) No benefit to the player whatsoever of "coming out" as a particular role
            2) More public information, even if some of that information is false

Eventually I started thinking, and I came up with this. I thought to set it in the Dune universe, since it's full of plots and schemes and political trickery.

            14 player game:
            5 House Atreides
            5 House Harkonnen
            4 House Corrino

Each of the Atreides and Harkonnen are broken down as follows:
            - 1 Leader
            - 2 Guardians
            - 1 Incompetent Guardian
            - 1 Traitor

The Corrinos are broken down like this:
            - 1 Emperor
            - 1 Truthsayer
            - 2 Agents

At the beginning of the game, it's revealed which House everyone in the entire game belongs to. It's also publicly revealed who the Leaders, Emperor, and Truthsayer are. So, with that said, let's get down to the roles:

The following roles cannot be lynched: Emperor, Truthsayer, Leader. Since all those roles are made public at game start, this shouldn't be an issue.

In Dune, the Corrino family controls the empire - they are the ruling House. The Agents of the Corrinos are announced as being members of Houses Atreides and Harkonnen, but are secretly working for the Corrinos. In other words, it appears publicly that Atreides and Harkonnen have 6 members each at game start, but one on each side is actually a Corrino agent. They have no special powers.

The Traitors appear to be working for one House (Atreides or Harkonnen) but are secretly working for the other house. In other words, the Atreides traitor is revealed as Harkonnen at the start of the game, and vice versa. No one but the leaders know who the traitors are, and the leader only knows the identity of his own traitor who's pretending to work for the other guy.

Just to recap: Each side (Atreides and Harkonnen) appears to have 6 members each. So, the host at the start says: "Here's who's in House Atreides: A, B, C, D, E, F." However, one of those members is a traitor (working for the other house) and another is a Corrino agent.

Let's take a break from discussing roles to interject the win conditions:
House Atreides wins if both Corrino agents are dead, as well as the Harkonnen-loyal traitor and the Baron Harkonnen (their leader.)
House Harkonnen wins if both Corrino agents are dead, as well as the Atreides-loyal traitor and the Duke Atreides (their leader.)
House Corrino wins if, by the end of day 5, they still have members alive and neither Atreides nor Harkonnen has won.

            Back to roles:
Every night, the Leader gets to assassinate one person. It is the Leader's choice alone who gets assassinated, though he may seek the counsel of others. The Leader may assassinate the Emperor, but only if the Truthsayer is dead. Furthermore, by doing so, all of the guardians on his side fail for the evening of the assassination.

There are 2 Guardians who may each guard one person for the night against assassinations. There is one Incompetent Guardian who thinks he's a guardian but is secretly incompetent, and his guardianings always fail.

Smart people will have caught on at this point: since (not counting the leader) there are 5 people per Atreides/Harkonnen side, and the 3 loyal ones are all Guardians, it makes sense for the Traitor and the Agent to fake Guardian. So the Leader has 5 people claiming to be the Guardian, and only 2 of them will actually be guarding someone. Intrigue ahoy!

Oh, if the Emperor gets assassinated, then both Agents are immediately outed and killed.

The role of the Truthsayer is to keep the balance of power between Houses Atreides and Harkonnen. She can (but doesn't have to) seer 1 player every night to find out their true role and identity. The catch: The results of this seering are publicly revealed. Thus the Truthsayer should only seer people whose identities she thinks the weaker player will benefit more from learning. The Truthsayer's job is to prevent either Atreides or Harkonnen from winning. However, if the Truthsayer seers a traitor, the traitor is immediately killed.

If a Leader is assassinated: the dead Leader's House can still win, but now the Traitor loyal to their side will be performing all the killings manually. If he ever makes an unsuccessful killing, the Guardians kill him. If a House's Leader and Traitor both die, that House has no chance of winning anymore.

So I think what makes this all interesting is that day votes will be targeted at Agents, since the majority of players need them dead in order to win. Also, much intrigue, since there's no way of knowing for sure who the traitors are.

Yeah. I did know that. Take the infiltration game. I haven't seen anything remotely like it while i've skimmed the topics. Something like that just doesn't happen. We have our mystery games and stuff, but nothing comes close.
